This has the potential of being a snoozefest and a jabbing competition. However, I think Lewis' power advantage would come through in round 6 or 7 and he would stop Holmes via TKO.

American_Ninja 02-23-2009, 06:28 PM Holmes had a lot of heart, and could take a helluva punch. I see Holmes landing a vicious uppercut in the 10th, stopping Lewis. cassiusthegreat 02-23-2009, 06:29 PM I couldn't see either of them stopping the either vitali1999 02-25-2009, 07:26 PM Holmes was great but Lewis by Split decision. number6 03-02-2009, 05:30 PM Im finding it hard to pick a winner in this one, it would be close and go the distance. Bad clash of styles. poet682006 03-02-2009, 05:41 PM This has the potential of being a snoozefest and a jabbing competition. However, I think Lewis' power advantage would come through in round 6 or 7 and he would stop Holmes via TKO. If Earnie Shavers' power couldn't pull out a victory over a prime Larry Holmes than Lewis' most certainly isn't either. Larry's jab is superior so it nets him a decision victory. Poet Gift of Gab 03-02-2009, 07:36 PM The fight ends in a controversial SD with both fighters making an argument that they won. billionaire 03-02-2009, 07:39 PM i dont understand why lennox lewis is considered so great....he beat everyone, but his biggest wins are old holyfield and old tyson, who i think he would beat in their primes but i dont really understand how hes considered a top 3 heavyweight... poet682006 03-02-2009, 08:07 PM i dont understand why lennox lewis is considered so great....he beat everyone, but his biggest wins are old holyfield and old tyson, who i think he would beat in their primes but i dont really understand how hes considered a top 3 heavyweight... I don't. I LIKE Lennox but I consider him a near-great not an ATG and rank him down around 12 or 13 all-time. Holmes, by contrast, I rank 5th all-time and a hands down ATG. Poet them_apples 03-02-2009, 09:58 PM Holmes has the superior jab and chin, he's quicker to (prime) but Lewis has that insane reach that seemed to give everyone problems, and a decent jab as well. I'd see a UD for Holmes, competitive and yes, a boring fight. Lewis winning a UD is not out of the question ether - we just don't have any fights where Lewis takes on really solid competition, they were ether past it or were just average fighters to begin with. them_apples 03-02-2009, 10:07 PM I don't. I LIKE Lennox but I consider him a near-great not an ATG and rank him down around 12 or 13 all-time. Holmes, by contrast, I rank 5th all-time and a hands down ATG. Poet ATG status doesn't really help much in terms of who beats who. David Tua isn't anywhere near the ATG list but he's a horrible style match up for certain fighters who rank way above him.(example) I forget where I have Lewis on my ATG list, but I have him there. Lots of heavyweights have ugly shit stains on their resumes so I don't hold his against him. Although I find him overrated IMO. I agree he loses to those 2 mentioned fighters. And Holmes, by UD. Infern0 03-02-2009, 11:39 PM Lennox Lewis Overrated? I will tell you who is overrated Tyson. I am biased I know, but on his best day I think Lewis beats any heavyweight historically. them_apples 03-03-2009, 12:07 AM Lennox Lewis Overrated? I will tell you who is overrated Tyson. I am biased I know, but on his best day I think Lewis beats any heavyweight historically. Tyson is overrated to, but mostly by irrelevant boxing fans or people who just like watching the big ppv's. Lewis is overated by actual boxing fans. Tyson is actually underrated by the more knowledgable posters, usually a counter to his overated-ness. lol Lewis beating any heavyweight is out of the question, it wouldn't happen. M26 03-07-2009, 04:20 AM Lennox Lewis would have the obvious size and reach advantage. I also consider Lewis to be the harder puncher of the two. His power would not be a deciding factor how ever, as Larry Holmes carried that granite chin with him. If Lewis were to have a winning chance, it would be via decision. I don't see that happening though. Holmes was more skilled, moved better, was faster, had better stamina and a vastly superior chin. He could also pack a more than decent punch, and I see him winning this fight with relative ease. Lewis would not win on his reach advantage alone, and I see Holmes moving in and out of range with his superior mobility, scoring at will. A fairly slowpaced fight with little or no real action, this would not be considered a classic by any means. Larry Holmes by UD. |
