Yeah I think so. It was definitely a great debut. It had some smash singles on it as well.

I hate when people say for today's standards it was a great album etc. This album is dope period and great. To me it's a classic. One of the highlights is how Game actually did Em's style perfect on that track. The only song that I don't like is Special.

I'd put this album where I put Twista's "The Day After". Good, enjoyable listen in almost any situation, but not a classic.

The Game was real good when he first came out. Hate it or Love it was a big single. Everyone was listining to that back in 05.

Not one song on that album that was wack. Dope as **** album.

i was just listening to lax on the way home. dope album. only a few songs i didn't like.

For some reason I didn't realize how nice that album was until recently.

I'd go with the documentary though, that album was great......

I think only the test of time will reveal a true classic.


To me, a classic album is timeless, and hypothetically...if it were released 'today' would still be considered a great album.




So, in regards to the thread...if The Documentary came out last Tuesday. It would still be as great as it was when it dropped in 2005, IMO.

as far as debut albums go, it's very good but it ain't an 'illmatic', thats the definition of a classic though. still one of my fav albums though

I actually like the Massacre more but most people consider GRODT a classic, where as the majority say Documentary is not a classic, but the difference between those who say it aint and those who say it is aint very big, as proven by this thread. **** it, ill take a poll on another site and post the results. I bet it will be similar as far as percentages to this, but with more voters.

To me a classic is an album that has alot of classic songs on it, and that one does to me. To be honest, I can't find a bad song on it.

i went through this cd again today...i dont like the song special, and i only like the hook on "don't worry", but other then that the cd is real good. Is it a classic? Im rethinking this, its tough to say. I keep comparing it with Kiss the Game Goodbye, from jadakiss...which i gave a 4.5/5. I gotta say i think jada is clearly better lyrically, and he doesnt namedrop on every song.

Both of them made some deep songs, game had like father like son and start from scratch. Im lookin at the balance and overall its a well balanced album. His flow is very good throughout the cd, and its impressive the way he switched it up on start from scratch.

Game got alotta help from 50, dre and eminem, jadakiss didnt have that on kiss the game goodbye. Its a tough call on both cds, because i see them on a very similar level...either 4.5/5 or classics. Basically what im saying is that game gets better beats, but jadakiss is the better rapper all around. Hes more polished lyrically and despite what some think, he can get deep on his tracks.

I gotta think about this more...but i respect anywhere from 4/5 to 5/5 on both the documentary and kiss the game goodbye.

haha well sometimes i do, but when im just kidding i try to make it obvious. But thanks, and im still thinkin about this one...but at the end of the day, the documentary is a damn good cd and thats the bottom line because stone cold said so
