0Rooster4Life0 02-18-2009, 06:30 PM I know i mixed up some ages by a couple years, but proof still is there.
BattlingNelson 02-18-2009, 07:05 PM First of all I'm not a Marciano-hater.
Thanks for the vids. Good job.
Regarding the first one the age problem, that you try to counter you really should take the best wins of the fighters rather than selected ones. I then think you'd find that Raocky probably did beat older fighters. But it doesn't matter anyway the way I see it as bot Charles, Walcott and Moore had plenty left by the time Rocky fought them. Louis only had a little.
Regarding the second you might be right that Rockys defense is underrated, but it still wasn't a great defense he had. He was more of a wreckingball fighter relying on his relentless pressure, than a defensive wizard.
Knighte 02-18-2009, 07:10 PM Good man, Rooster! I think people are just so irritated by the perfect record and high KO%, they feel they just have to bring Marciano down to earth.

All the fights that i listed where Good wins for them, They where All title fights , Exept the Carnera fight.
KostyaTszyu44 02-19-2009, 06:56 AM rocky was great but a tad overrated
walcott, charles, louis and moore were all past prime when rocky fought them, but they were still good wins
rocky was awfully limited technically, and he would get schooled by guys like ali
and hes way too high on alot of HW ATG lists, and a lot of general ATG lists
but still an ATG

oh give me a break!
you think marciano would have taken out a prime ali?
prime ali had excellent legs and stamina, movement, sharp, quick
all time great chin, second to none boxing brain
i mean come on, george foreman, who was one of the biggest punchers of all time, (and a much bigger and physcially more powerul man than rocky) couldnt knock out ali
frazier couldnt knock out ali......
ali was one of the most tenacious and courageous fighters ever, and also very skilled and talented, much too good for rocky...yeah basically to say rocky would stop him is utter bull****...george foreman practically teed off on ali for 8 rounds...ali didnt go down or anything
i find it very hard to believe marciano would have kncoked him out

Marciano was put on his ass by smaller guys.
Terrible video, Rocky had a horrible defence. Of course any boxer could slip some punches. Heck I could make a video of Margarito dodging a few punches and say he had a great defence. I am not trying to bash Ricky. That is how I see it.
Rockys best win were over old men who were past it by the time he fought the, but on one can question his unbeaten record.
Marciano considered a comeback in 1959 when Ingemar Johansson won the heavyweight championship from Floyd Patterson on June 26, 1959. After only a month of training in three years, Marciano decided against it and never seriously considered a comeback again
Why did he want to comeback against Ingemar Johansson but not Patterson???

he's delusional, Rocky gets knocked out by Ali in 6.

I'm not sure about actually being knocked out, but most likely he gets stopped in 6. Rocky was a known bleeder and Ali the best I ever saw at opening up cuts. Call it a cut stoppage inside of 6.

I for one stand by my prediction. If Joe Frazier could knock Ali on his ass and defeat him, why is it totally outside the realm of possibility that Marciano (who is, in my opinion, everything Frazier was and more) could as well? I'm not saying it wouldn't be a great and close fought fight..
but
Marciano was impervious to pain.
He never entered the ring in less than 150% condition.
He never got discouraged.
He was easily ten times the puncher Ali was.
Even Ali stated after their 'superfight' that he couldn't believe how strong and competitive Marciano was at 45, and that he couldn't imagine what Marciano would've been like in his prime.
Marciano (49-0-0, 43 KOs) would've found a way to win.

I agree, I think Rocky would have beat Ali, Ali had alot of trouble against a fighter that was shorter and would presure you, Joe Frazier, Can you imagine if Joe Frazier. Could you imagine if Joe Could hit alittle harder but just with the left hook, but with both hands? Thats Rocky, As for Rocky getting stopped in 6, No way, Id put my house on it that this fight would go much like Ali Vs Frazier, Would have been close, but For Ali to beat a man like Joe,but hit harder and with both hands, is alot to ask from Ali.
Joe Frazier On Rocky Marciano
"Joe Louis is the greatest heavyweight champion of all time. Rocky Marciano is second only to Louis. Where do I rate Ali? Somewhere below me. I beat him, and if I could beat him, no doubt Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano could have beaten him."
-- Joe Frazier

frazier was a much better fighter than marciano, and you are forgetting that he only beat ali after a 3 year layoff and ali avenged that loss twice

I generally agree with him since he knows more than you. Rocky doesn't come close to beating Ali. Even if Frazier did give Ali problems, Ali did win his rematches. It would be hilarious watching the shorter, slower, reach-lacking Marciano trying to land on Ali. The bigger, harder hitting Liston couldn't catch him even with his 84 reach how the hell is Rocky going to do it.
Ali also said "that old man would never beat me"
For the record, Frazier would beat Rocky 7 times out of 10. IMO of course.

Gift of Gab 02-20-2009, 07:23 PM Toney, Hopkins and Roy all school Rocky. Rocky is a small HW, his defense sucks, fought old fighters and has terrible technique. Plus, is it too far fetched to say that he was protected by the mob? He fought in the 50's, was of Italian descent and was a blockbuster HW. If the mob fixed Primo Carnera fights why not The Rock's? Not that far fetched if you ask me.

Nice post. Unfortunately, it is fashionable these days to attempt to cheapen the accomplishments of athletes of yore (for the most part, losers cannot stand winners!)
If you ask me, the Rock was a human phenomenon, a small, crude heavyweight who, by virtue of his sledgehammer fists and unquenchable determination compiled the greatest record boxing will probably ever see . I think he is the greatest role model an impressionable kid could want, and the only champ I cannot envision him defeating is prime George Foreman.
I'm a nuthugger, I admit it. The man is my idol!

I'm not showing any kind of bias. The mob that was controlling boxing back then was predominantly of Italian descent. And I'm glad you brought up Liston, just goes to show you than any boxer can have ties in this corrupt sport.

If the fights were fixed
why would Rock allow Charles to split his nose into pieces?
why would Walcott allow Rock to clock him with probably the greatest single punch in boxing history?
Why would Rock allow himself to get battered bloody?
why would Archie Moore and Joe Louis and LaStarza etc etc put up such spirited resistance?

And tired of seeing idiots make vs match ups with Marciano a slow unskilled cruiserweight against guys like Lewis, Bowe, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson ect ect ect, The truth is Marciano was a joke who fought mostly 170 or so pound fighters and took 10 plus rounds to knock them out even though other fighters did it alot quicker. The truth is Archie Moore, Joe Louis, Jersey Joe Walcott were pushing 40 and past their primes when they fought Marciano and yet Walcott and Moore still dropped the clown with one punch. The truth is if Archie Moore a glass chin fighter who was knocked out in the early round in his prime on various instances by other middleweights then a fighter like Bernard Hopkins who was never knocked out would school the hell out of Marciano.

I dont understand that? By your reasoning, wouldn't that mean Rocky Marciano would never lose to Bernard Hopkins or anyone period?
What makes Marciano so great was that he COULD be knocked down but still managed to WIN by knock out majority of the time. Marciano is a great fighter, not a boxer but a fighter. He would just keep coming forward and beat you by KO. Which is why he is my favorite boxer.
IMO, I think Marciano could have beat Ali when he(ali) was young. Because with youth comes inexperience no matter how much talent you have. Ali against Marciano, would have ended up being like Ali vs Frazier I. However, because he would learn from the loss, he wouldn't have loss to Frazier(if the fight with Marciano happened).
