Still shocked at the events that took place on February 7, 2009 with the trail of destruction these ferocious bushfires caused. And to see such tragedy happen in my home state let alone anywhere upsets me.

The fact 200 poeple's lives were tragically taken, 5000 left homeless plus the environmental damage caused makes me very sad.

Just sitting there watching events unfold in the aftermath will stay with me forever. Survivors told of their amazing stories how they managed to escape the carnage with their lives. People making desperate pleas for loved ones to call them. Survivors having the courage to tell their story about losing loved ones. Watching the very courageous CFA volunteers on the front line taking on the monster fires.

Just a very sad day in Australia's history. The peole of all the towns affected will be back to fight another day.

Our house burnt down in the ash Wednesday fires of 1983.
Decided then I wasn't going to live in the hills again.
Really feel for everyone involved. Even down here in Melbourne the smoke haze is everywhere. There is still quite a few very large fires still going strong. Things can still go belly up if the wind picks up. Also heard today that the start of this year is the driest on record. The weather here has been totally screwed for years. You guys up north are getting all the rain and we are in massive drought.

It's quite sad. Imagine if your house got destroyed by the fires and you lost everything.

Also that guy who deliberately lit a fire and killed people with the fire should be put in jail for a long time.
