UFC 100 LANDS IN LAS VEGAS, GSP LIKELY HEADLINER (http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=8187&zoneid=13)

Ever since his defeat of B.J. Penn at UFC 94 at the end of January, Georges St. Pierre and his camp has been mired in a quagmire of debate over his cornermen's use of Vaseline in between rounds.

Now, he will likely have more to talk about than petroleum jelly.

UFC president Dana White was the guest on a recent Montreal-based radio show on CKAC Sports 730AM to discuss his promotion's own controversial issues regarding the Quebec Athletic Commission's new interpretation of its own rules putting UFC 97 in jeopardy. While on the show, the juggernaught kingpin revealed his part of his plan for his promotion as it hits the century mark in numbered events.

"I'm pretty confident that UFC 100 will have Georges St. Pierre on the card," he told the host of the program on CKAC. "UFC 100 will more than likely have Georges St. Pierre defending his welterweight title."

He also confirmed that the event would take place in July in the sweltering heat of Las Vegas, the promotion's home base, and not in the moderate temperatures of Denver, where the UFC was born.

There was a lot of speculation that UFC 100 would be turned into a "Night of Champions" themed event, but White has stated in the past that he has no plans to put all or even most of the promotion's belts on the line. It appears that he will, however, put who is arguably the sport's brightest star on the main stage.

White confirms UFC 100 to Las Vegas, St. Pierre vs. Alves likely (http://mmajunkie.com/news/14012/white-confirms-ufc-100-to-las-vegas-st-pierre-vs-alves-likely.mma)

As first reported by Yahoo! Sports in January, UFC President Dana White has confirmed that UFC 100 will take place in July in Las Vegas.

White confirmed the location of the historic event during a recent interview with Canadian radio network CKAC Sports 730-AM.

White also indicated UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (18-2 MMA, 12-2 UFC) will be defending his title at the event.

In Yahoo! Sports' previous report, Kevin Iole reported that White had committed to a July 11 date for UFC 100, as well as a return to the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas for the first time since July 2008.

The UFC has opted for the venue's sister property, the MGM Grand Garden Arena, for several major Las Vegas events. The Mandalay Bay Events Center seats approximately 11,000 spectators, while the MGM Grand Garden Arena boasts a capacity of nearly 15,000 seats.

While some early rumors had the UFC planning to put all five of the compnay's titles on the line for UFC 100 (which will actually be the company's 132nd event when including UFC Fight Nights and "The Ultimate Fighter" Finales), White has since indicated that will not be the case.

St. Pierre last defended his title in decisive fashion over UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn (13-5-1 MMA, 9-4-1 UFC) in a rematch of their 2006 clash. Controversy centering upon the improper application of Vaseline by St. Pierre's cornermen to their fighter has since marred the results, and both champions have indicated they would be open to a third meeting.

Should that bout be arranged for UFC 100, top welterweight contender Thiago Alves (16-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) and lightweight challenger Kenny Florian (11-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) would both be forced to wait for their well-deserved title shots.

Sources close to Alves have indicated to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the Brazilian "currently understands he's fighting St. Pierre next."
