View Full Version : Good british propects
chrismart83 02-14-2009, 08:33 PM Well, since Nathan Cleverly was in action over the weekend, it got me thinking: who are the young prospects you are keeping an eye on at the minute, and expect to do well in the future. We can try and get a little list together.
Rocky. 02-14-2009, 08:35 PM Paul applby has a big future ahead of him :boxing:
Sparked_1985 02-14-2009, 10:22 PM Kell Brook is an obvious one too.
And the three Olympians or non-Olympian in Frank Gavin's case so:
Kell Brook
Billy Joe Saunders
Frankie Gavin
James De Gale
maybe George Groves as well
Clegg 02-14-2009, 10:50 PM Other than those already mentioned, I would say Kenny Anderson, the Scottish LHW. He impressed me a while back, just waiting for him to fight better opposition and settle on one weight division.

Hes super middleweight m8, hes fighting maguire for the celtic title later this year, hes had alot of bad luck trying to get matchs, everytime he has a fight lined up it falls through etc. hopefully things start going right for him, cause he definatly has the potenial to be a big star.
adietheforestfa 02-15-2009, 03:34 PM John Murray
Only British prospects i've been keeping my eye on are Degale, Gavin and Tyson Fury. They seem the most promising, Degale and Gavin for there amateur pedigree and Fury for his size and the way they are bringing him up. I've heard good things about Kell Brook and Cleverly though.
Clegg 02-15-2009, 04:04 PM Kell Brook's last 2 fights:

beecherhq 02-15-2009, 04:08 PM I always keep my eye on a lad from bury called Scott Quigg who trains out of the same gym as jennings. Kell Brook looks to be the most promising at the moment, the timing of his punches are ridiculously good and hes got power to match.
Clegg 02-15-2009, 04:13 PM Just looked up Quigg on boxrec. I hope he steps up the level of competition soon. I don't think it's good for UK prospects when they face guys with losing records so much.
Chunk 02-15-2009, 04:14 PM Kell Brook is by far and away the best prospect we have! Huge talent.
Mrpedigree 02-15-2009, 04:15 PM Billy Joe Saunders
and whats the name of that black Irish kidd?? cause he looks real strong!

Pretty sure hes with frank warren so that would explain that. Usually aswell now when two prospects face each other it turns into a good fight. I think its a problem in boxing as a whole and before promoters, managers and fans attitudes change with regards to losing it will not change.
beecherhq 02-15-2009, 04:20 PM Billy Joe Saunders
and whats the name of that black Irish kidd?? cause he looks real strong!
Darren sutherland - that guys a beast
Clegg 02-15-2009, 04:21 PM Yeah, Warren does tend to do that with his prospects. At least it seems that Fury is being brought along a bit better by Hennessey.
Mrpedigree 02-15-2009, 04:40 PM Darren sutherland - that guys a beast
yeah thats him, he looks a very powerfull young man ! :boxing:
Hes gonna batter degale !:boxing:
medium-deek 02-15-2009, 05:09 PM Darren sutherland - that guys a beast
Not sure how Sutherland counts as British when he is infact Orish.
beecherhq 02-15-2009, 06:07 PM Not sure how Sutherland counts as British when he is infact Orish.
not sure where i stated that sutherland was british?
Mr. Ryan 02-15-2009, 06:24 PM Kell Brook is by far and away the best prospect we have! Huge talent.
His last two performances have been outstanding but he needs to tuck in his chin. His counter left hook is very powerful.
Infern0 02-15-2009, 06:32 PM Tyson Fury has the potential to be our best heavyweight since lennox lewis.
mmaphilippines 02-15-2009, 09:33 PM I like David Haye. But I don't know if he is still a prospect
Infern0 02-16-2009, 12:52 AM Haye is a former Undisputed and Ring magazine champion, I think he no longer qualifies for prospect status.
Rocky. 02-16-2009, 01:34 AM David price has turned pro, i think hes a bigger prospect than tyson fury
theghost#1 02-16-2009, 01:41 AM I personally like Kevin Mitchell. I noticed he doesn't get the exposure that alot of other guys do, But I think he''l be very good when he is ready.
ellwise69 02-16-2009, 09:03 AM I take it darren sutherland doesn't count as a british prospect?
I'm keeping my eye on this one as well.
big paulie 02-16-2009, 01:48 PM Gareth Couch, undefeated in 14 fights i think, lost out to Kevin Mitchell in the ABA final, has had very little coverage
The Surgeon 02-16-2009, 02:29 PM Kell Brook is the best we have right now and lets not Forget Amir Khan lads that boy has TALENT! John Murray is a real hardcase, Cleverly and Appleby look promising, i think the Irish Guy Darren Sutherland will do better than any of the other Olympians including De Gale who beat him at the Olympics, he has beat James like 5times before that tho. And i cant see Price going far Fury will do better IMO
medium-deek 02-16-2009, 04:09 PM not sure where i stated that sutherland was british?
You mean "British" in the Collins sense British?
chrismart83 02-16-2009, 04:21 PM What you fellas think of Rendall Munroe?
beecherhq 02-16-2009, 04:22 PM Not sure how Sutherland counts as British when he is infact Orish.
YOU MEAN IRISH. Before pointing out other peoples mistakes sort yourself out, TURD.:peeright:

Never erd of him.
Infern0 02-16-2009, 05:23 PM David price has turned pro, i think hes a bigger prospect than tyson fury
Didn't he get KTFO at the olympics? from what I saw there he isn't even up to replacing Fraudley.
The Surgeon 02-16-2009, 05:42 PM Didn't he get KTFO at the olympics? from what I saw there he isn't even up to replacing Fraudley.
He beat Fury in the amatures
The Surgeon 02-16-2009, 05:44 PM Also Craig McEwan look like he might do well
Kevin Mitchell is destined for world level aswell
