View Full Version : The great losing opponents?
BennyST 02-11-2009, 06:21 AM :lol1:
I've been looking through some recent history lately and watching some of the old, classic fights and I noticed a guy that came up a number of times as an opponent against some of the truly great fighters of all time. He lost every fight against these guys, obviously, but he fought so many of them. He was not what you would call a great fighter, but maybe he was a great test for a fighter.
I figure this guy must have been the perfect test for a prospect. A decent record, fought good opponents and could actually fight. He may very well be the greatest test fighter ever! The lost of guys he fought is staggering to say the least. If he had beaten each of them he may very well be the best of all time. :lol1:
Marvin Hagler
Thomas Hearns
Sugar Ray Leonard
Michael Nunn
Virgil Hill
Fred Hutchings
Caveman Lee
Angel Garcia
Not too bad a list of fighters. If ever I was a journeyman fighter I would want to say I fought the best and only the best.
C'mon folks, let's here the greatest losing opponents? Let's see of we can top that resume for being beaten!
MANGLER 02-11-2009, 06:50 AM Juarez and Zab are fast becomin these guys. Rocky lost to Soto, MAB x2, and JMM. Zab got it from KT, Spinks, PBF, Cotto, and Clottey. I really don't see them as any more than journeymen at this point even if they were once at the star level.

oldgringo 02-15-2009, 03:28 PM Jorge Castro has a big record and has been beaten by a lot of good/great fighters. He has also done his fair share of winning!
Roy Jones
Terry Norris
Roberto Duran
Juan Carlos Gomez
Vassiliy Jirov
Paul Briggs
The man has been beaten everywhere from Light Middleweight to Cruiserweight with a career than spanned nearly 20 years!
He should have lost to John David Jackson too, but his great heart and determination pulled him out of trouble and he landed that sweet home run shot to get the awesome upset win.
Obviously not as impressive as some of the other guys mentioned so far, but I figured he was a good test for anyone and he was beaten by a lot of awesome fighters.
Johnny Awesome 02-15-2009, 06:36 PM John Tate was winning his fight with Mike Weaver convincingly before getting caught with a punch in the last round.
Jersey Joe Walcott fought a beautiful fight with Marciano before getting caught in what I believe was the 14th round.
Obviously Hagler deserves to be mentioned multiple times.

I was waiting for this one. Chuvalo takes the win. Not only did he have tough, competitive fights with all of these guys he was never knocked down in his whole career. He gave ali the toughest fight of his career... Twice.
After the first Ali fight the post fight quote "Sure the judges may have gave it to him (Ali). But when he was in the hospital with internal bleeding, I was out dancing with my wife"
DarchinyFAN 02-17-2009, 08:35 PM I did Chuvalo somewhere, not sure if it was here or **stS*d*B*x*ng. It was in an argument with a guy talking about great resumes and counting losses as part of them. I said according to him Chuvalo was one of the greatest ever.
DarchinyFAN 02-17-2009, 09:28 PM I got bored and did a few recent fighters.
Tried to get guys with atleast 10 recognizable names.
Not the greatest examples in the world but just thought I'd share.
