Young was very underated and for me he beat and tuck on better fighters than tyson Dempsey 1919 02-04-2009, 02:00 PM Young is all wrong for Tyson. Tyson's footspeed would make this a very quick fight. Tyson by the second round.:boxing: Burning Desire 02-05-2009, 09:20 AM Young beat some big hitters, george foreman, ron lyle and got a draw with shavers and got robbed against ali who is very fast! and got robbed again against norton. Young was very underated and for me he beat and tuck on better fighters than tyson Your right and you may not know this but he also deserved the decision against Earnie Shavers, and to my knowledge he wasn't knocked off his feet by Gerry Cooney, George Foreman, who were much bigger than him and they arguably hit harder than Mike Tyson. Jimmy Young would give Mike Tyson fits he can box he can move, his defense is sound and his chin is very good also. The only problem i see is that at times Jimmy Young likes to go on the ropes, and that would be suicide against Mike Tyson who destroy's fighters along the ropes. But call me crazy but i wouldn't be suprised if Jimmy Young upset Mike Tyson, obviously Mike Tyson is the favorite and would more than likely TKO, Jimmy Young along the ropes in the middle rounds. But i wouldn't be suprised if Jimmy Young frustrated Mike Tyson, and manged to outbox Mike Tyson to earn a decision. TheGreatA 02-05-2009, 09:55 AM I actually think the fight would go to a decision. This doesn't mean Young would win because Tyson could outpoint opponents with his power jab even over the 12 round distance as he did against Tillis, Tucker, Smith, Green and Ruddock. The judges never gave Young any decisions anyway. It's a shame because under different circumstances he could possibly hold wins over Ali, Foreman, Norton, Lyle and Shavers. Imagine that. Even as an older man he troubled the best HW's of the early 80's. He showed a very solid chin against Foreman as well as great defensive skills, I don't think Tyson would get to him that easily even with his speed. cotto16 02-05-2009, 04:59 PM I actually think the fight would go to a decision. Young was very underated and for me he beat and tuck on better fighters than tyson A fat undertrained 230 pounds,1976 ali was very fast????? young tried rope a doping norton in that fight I believe and norton capitalised on it don't see how young got robbed there tyson would have destroyed jimmy young if they ever met in the ring kdynamite 02-18-2009, 09:24 PM tyson would have killed...in all honesty, i think tyson could of beaten anyone while he was in his prime...whether it be by knockout or decision...i think the only person who would have beat tyson would have been foreman...not because he was better but because of the style that tyson had...foreman was great against people who came charging in with power...but even then i still think tyson would edge away with the win TheGreatA 02-18-2009, 09:27 PM A fat undertrained 230 pounds,1976 ali was very fast????? young tried rope a doping norton in that fight I believe and norton capitalised on it don't see how young got robbed there tyson would have destroyed jimmy young if they ever met in the ring Young lost a close split decision to Norton which many thought he had won. I wouldn't call it a robbery but it was close. Young had a very solid chin, fought very good opposition and was hardly ever knocked out (only as a novice against Shavers, which is no shame). He always fought in a very defensive way and never took any unnecessary risks. I can't really see Tyson destroying him. He didn't destroy Tillis, Tucker, Ribalta, Ruddock, Smith, Green... Imo Young would have enough toughness and ring savvy to survive Tyson, but probably at the expense of losing a decision, as Tucker, Green, Smith and co did, most likely in a pretty dull affair. Terry A 02-18-2009, 10:12 PM I definitely think Jimmy Young could have lasted the distance with Tyson. He was a better fighter than James Tillis and Mitch Green, plus, he beat Ron Lyle & George Foreman, and survived Earnie Shavers, which is saying something about his chin. Tyson was always very busy, so no way JY does enough to earn the decision. Ernie M 02-21-2009, 12:01 AM Young beat some big hitters, george foreman, ron lyle and got a draw with shavers and got robbed against ali who is very fast! and got robbed again against norton. Young was very underated and for me he beat and tuck on better fighters than tyson Young was a very good fighter, touted as the next Ali, and his fight against him was controversial. And he did beat Foreman and Lyle, and his chin was good. But I think that Tyson's hand speed and power would be too much for Young. We have to remember that he did do a lot of things that Ali did, and one of them was not train or show up in shape for some of those close fights that he lost. Now on the other hand, if he could survive the first 2-3 rounds and take the fight to a decision, I believe he wins the fight. He learned from Ali how to beat Foreman, or the fight could've been much different. Still, I say Tyson in 2 rounds. Proud American 03-03-2009, 02:00 PM Young is all wrong for Tyson. Tyson's footspeed would make this a very quick fight. Tyson by the second round. Just like Tyson knocked out Buster Douglas in 2 rounds right? Wait Tyson was past his prime at 23 and that is why Douglas beat the crap out of him. Young is better than Douglas so Young outboxers Tyson for the win 9 out of 10 times. |
