The previous thread about Illmatic not being a classic blew my mind LOL. So I decided on a poll to see where everyone stands.

Here's a brief story on the making of Illmatic:

Don't waste your time. Some really absurd things will pop up eventually. People struggle to put things in context. Of course the production will sound differnt, it was a different era. Listen to a lot of old albums and you'll think the production is weak. It's because we have become accustomed to the newer type of beats in this era.

Another thing is people can't give credit when credit is due. For example Illmatic is bar for bar the best album ever. Even if you not feelin Nas you can still go back or look to the future and listen to other lyrics and compare. Very few have matched that album.

Here's what I'm talking about. Carter 3 was a weedplate. But I can still put it in contextr and say it was a solid commercial crossover album.

nas's flow on illmatic was something truly amazing and the beats and everything else was aswell really.

The question doesn't even need to be asked....The only thing u can knock on Illmatic is that all the tracks are mainly street. Nothing mainstream(doesn't bother me). But its still a classic.

LOL Im used to the bait threads on the Boxing side, so I guess it makes sense that some kids just try to get a rise out of everyone.

I haven't met one person in my life (regardless if they listen to anything from Wayne to Pastory Troy) that didn't say Illmatic is a classic.

I could be wrong. But I don't think vers was trying to get a rise out of anyone.

I just don't think he likes that kind of rap

There was no such thing as mainstream rap in 1994.

There was no such thing as mainstream rap in 1994.

There was (Hammer, Vanilla Ice, Ton Loc, etc.), but it hadn't reached the mainstream boom that it hit in '97.

Even Run DMC were commercial rap artists. They opened up for Aerosmith and Van Halen in front of 40,000 people and have sold millions of albums.

I have met people that believe that the entire rap genre is a complete joke. One of their many reasons is that fact that Illmatic is rated so highly.

I was thinking, maybe there should be a top ten rap albums of all time posted in this forum. That way, we can ban all the retards that listen to, or comment about any other rap album. This can be done for the top ten greatest boxers also; if your list is any different from the objective/factual list off to another boxing site you go.

Fact: It is OK to not like Illmatic/Nas, and enjoy other albums/artists more.
Fact: There is no right, or wrong when it comes to opinions about music.
Subjective opinion: Every time I have ever listened to Illmatic, whether 14 years ago, or today I was left emotionally cold, almost like nothing even happened.

a thread like this in a hiphop forum is a joke. this album is to hip hop, similar to what purple rain is to pop music. it doens't matter if you don't like the music. it's impact and importance is not relegated to bias or opinion.

I have no problem with Illmatic having impact on hiphop. My problem comes to play when others are told they are wrong for not liking it.

There was no such thing as mainstream rap in 1994.

sure it was, it was just, radio stations had the balls to play Lords of the underground, gangstarr, and artists like that. back then mainstream rap was usually high quality, whether it was gangsta rap, pure old boom bap or party rap, it was top notch ****. You could hear "chief rocka" then "mass appeal" then "summertime" then "ditty" on the radio, in a row, and it was common. the good ol days.

Without questions it's one of the greatest hip hop albums ever. Rosewood is the only one I can think of that would say otherwise.....but too each is own.

There was no such thing as mainstream rap in 1994.

Sure there was.....It just wasn't as weak as the mainstream **** now is. Snoop, Cube and Pac were considered mainstream back then.

Theres nothing wrong with that but wat gets me is that he claim he dont listen to him but never stop talkin about dude.

Listen I had a problem with this rap section because you guys all hated on Lil Wayne but yet made a million threads about him. Its like damn if you hate him so much why you talkin about him.

And I felt for dudes like Verse and Rosewood who listened to Wayne but had to constantly put up with the hating.

So now Verse gonna turn around and do the same thing its like it aint a crime to not like Nas or Wayne. But if you said it once shut the fuk up about it.

I personally cant stand T.I's music aside from Trap Muzik and its my opinion. However I aint gonna keep makin threads talking about T.I. and saying he a$$ or he overrated. I dont listen to him so ima just give him props for makin his money and ima not mention him again.

Just cut the dam hate

i think it is a most unfortunate thing that we can't trust the radio anymore.

You're asking the obvious on a pro Nas site, just to state the obvious to relieve your nerves.
