i would say Common is better than both Vakill and Juice. From what i've heard from Juice, I say he's a damn good battle MC and that's it, he's nice with the punchlines, same with Vakill, though i admit that i haven't heard too much from him. Common is more versatile with his rhymes. He can battle (The ***** in Yoo), he can storytell (A Song for Assata) and he can straight-up rip the mic (Making A Name For Ourselves)

Agreed. When it comes to the absolute greatest in Chicago i can't credit any other than Common Sense. he is one of my all time favorites.

Haven't heard too much of Juice's stuff, can you recomend his best piece of work?

Also, if you've heard 'The Darkest Cloud' you really can't say that any rapper '****s' on Vakill, period.

Thanks Meg.

i always think of this one line he used off that particular album that i think is MAD clever...

he was like,

"Ima kick the type of **** that girl Jane is Fonda"

you know, like Jane Fonda, but Jane is Fond-a, like Fond-Of...
sorry maybe i don't have to explain. but when i first heard that line i was like, wow, this dude is totally unique.

Not the old Common no, But I wasn't feeling universal mind control at all. Finding Forever wasn't that special either. He's not put anything above average out since Be (2005).

that doesn't make Lupe better overall though. no way. and i still prefer Common's newer material over Lupe's. Universal Mind Control was not an album that accurately reflected his potential, i agree, but Finding Forever was a great album, in my opinion. he's getting older. i ain't mad at him. not even close.

Houston- Scarface because he's my favorite artist but K-Rino would murder alot of the so called best.
Cleveland- Krayzie Bone
Atlanta- Big Boi
Sacramento- Brotha Lynch
Kansas City- Tech N9ne
Memphis- 8-Ball

Finding Forever was a great album but certainly not his best.

I get what you're saying and i'm not trying to hate because I love Common, but IMO 'Universal Mind Control' was nowhere near as good as 'The Cool' so I couldn't say that I prefer Common's newer material to Lupe's. 'Be' was a great album and 'Finding Forever' was good. 'UMC' was subpar IMO. Where as in a similar time Lupe has brought out 'Food & Liquor' and 'The Cool'. Which i think were both better albums than 'Finding Forever' or 'Universal Mind Control'.

Common is the king of Chicago but far from his best and Lupe can't be far behind. Especially if Common brings out more rubbish like 'Universal Mind Control'. You cant call Ali the best boxer in the world because that time has past. If his last album was anything to go by then so is Common, therefore in my eyes, he is no longer at the top of the Chicago hip hop scene.

I'm going by my personal best.

Andre is nice but gets a little too extreme for my taste sometimes.

i hope lupend isn't his last album he needs longevity, common sense is the king of chicago right now but his time in winding down... juice is getting up there to and lost his hunger, i haven't heard new from him in a while..

i think that MC Juice is just content in the under-underground. i wouldn't compare him to Common Sense. to me Common IS Chicago. Juice is the best freestyle/battle rapper out of there no doubt. that's the glory he had warranted, in my opinion.
