Was it something you found on your own? Did you have an older friend/relative that was a big hip-hop head? By accident?

As for me, it was something i found on my own. Also, my older cousin was playing "So Many Tears" by 2Pac one day, and i was hooked. Share some stories yall!

I'm embaressed to admit that rock/rap got me into rap. when i was in middle school i liked rock groups that rapped such as Limp Bizkit. Then Eminem got really popular and I liked him alot, who didn't back in 1999-2000? lol. Then I expanded on and on from that point. I remember Gold Mac gave me a copy of It was written freshman year of high school, that album made me love rap even more. Thanks Gold Mac, lol.

Its funny now I havn't listend to rock at all basically since middle school. Rap took me over. I just didn't like all that yelling, rap was just more for me. And I realized it because even the rock groups I liked were influenced by rap. that was the alarm for me...

you and mac know each other? lol i never connected the dots i suppose lol. sad to say, i liked limp bizkit as well, but i didnt know any better, i was about 13 or so. As hip-hop started deteriorating (imo), i started getting into other music, metal, reggae, jazz, trip-hop. That's why i dont really know whats hot right now, and i had no idea Lil Wayne was dubbed the best rapper alive.

MC Hammer in the late 80's and 90's when I was a little boy...no joke. From there it was Illmatic and E. 1999 Eternal in elementary school. LL Cool J too. Then later in middle school and high school I really got into listening to as much stuff as possible. I went through the period of really feeling particular types of rap/hip hop. For awhile it was straight east coast ****, then I had a period of strictly listening to the most underground **** I could find, then it was stuff like Do or Die, Twista and a reunion with Bone.....

Now I just listen to anything that's good regardless. Good music is good music. 5 of my very favorite rappers are AZ, LL, Tech N9ne, Common and Devin The Dude....you won't find anything more contrasting stylistically.

its nothing to be ashamed of really. Limp Bizkit was cool in their day, even doing a song with Method Man.

Yeah me and Gold Mac grew up together...biggest hip hop head I ever knew. ever....

Gold Mac probably was born with head phones on playing Illmatic.. LOL

i was 16 when i knew i was a hip-hop head. Wu-Tang Clan and A Tribe Called Quest were my favorite group, i followed them religiously. After that, at 18 or so, i moved onto cats like Atmosphere, Cannibal Ox and Jedi Mind Tricks. Then it was metal, sad that i got into metal through Slipknot and Marilyn Manson, any headbangers in here?

For some reason in middle school I was obsessed with Wu-Tang. Meth was my favorite (he was easily the most likable from a casual standpoint) and my favorite song was, not surprisingly, M.E.T.H.O.D. MAN.

Nice. I'd say GZA was one of the last prominent members I really got into. I always liked his contribution to their music, but he didn't make an impact on me for whatever reason. Maybe I wasn't mature enough to respect his talent or whatever.

I don't think I really came around on GZA until I bought Legend of the Lquid Sword in '02. I think I accidentally fast forwarded on the album and listened to "Silent" first and it blew me away. That **** went hard as hell.

Then I went back and picked up Liquid Swords and played it in a span of a week. Brilliant album.

my boy Steve ONLY rocks Wallabes. and when i say only, i mean ONLY. i have never seen him wear any other brand of shoe. watching his face at any Wu member's concert is like watching someone on trial for murder...he's THAT serious. everyone will be all wild n **** and Steve's just posted up with a slight head nod with a face of stone. there is no question in my mind that Wu-Tang is this dude's religion. but then again, Steve is also the only dude i know who actually and very much legitly pours out liquor for his "homies". haha again, he's THAT serious.

anyways...

i became very attracted to hip hop first when i was mad young and i was watching TV and a commercial for this compilation CD came on that featured Mo Money Mo Problems. that was in 97 so i guess i was...9. i remember pointing to the TV when the commercial came on and saying to my parents, "That's my favorite song" and i hadn't even heard the entire thing yet. of course in retrospect i see that they weren't too impressed because my parents are ignorant white people. maybe they thought it would change but it didn't. so i asked for the CD for Christmas and once i got it i would always make up dances to it alone in my basement (because i was a dancer for years starting a couple years before that). then that same year i got Puff Daddy and The Family's No Way Out and was obsessed with I'll Be Missing You and All About The Benjamins. My sister's nanny bought me Ma$e's Harlem World for Christmas that year and Usher's My Way for my birthday. I started watching BET's the top ten count down every Friday night and i remember loving that old Missy Elliot...her Supa Dupa Fly ****. Sock it 2 me and The Rain...Missy use to be so sick. And that old Timbo **** with her and Magoo...and this was back when BET use to play that real good ****, when the count downs were once a week and mad legit. (maybe they still do do a friday night one but i dont know, i dont really watch it much anymore).
Then it was just pure Biggie for a while, and then i discovered the underground. and that was it. once i found underground hip hop my passion quickly developed. i say passion because that's when i started hearing hip hop not just with my ears but with my soul. Wu, Tribe and Gang Starr were what did it at first and after that all i wanted to do was find more and more of it. I started gathering as much of it as i could and really focusing on it...reading up on it and ****. The Roots said it best...

its definitely a worth while investment

i copped one a while back specifically for the Method Man show i was reaching that night and of course they didn't have any in ladies so i gripped a mens and "ladied" it up. i ripped the shoulder so it falls off a bit and tied up the sides so it ended up being mad cute and i got mad compliments on it at the show. to this day, probably the best clothing purchase i ever made. i bought matching black and yellow dunks that day too. i was a true Killa Bee on the swarm, baby. you know what it izzzzz...haha.

once i bought that t-shirt i realized how universal the Wu-Tang Clan really is. it doesn't matter where i wear it to, there is always at least one random person who i don't know that throws up the W and screams WU-TANG! in my direction. and it's hype too because we connect for literally 2 seconds, but the connection is mad strong because it's over the Wu. and it's all different kinds too. people that you really wouldn't expect it from. it's ****ing beautiful.
Wu-Tang forever, baby.

I use 2 1210 Technics and a Rane TTM 57 Mixer with the Serato program (you've probably seen DJs with laptops next to the equipment, they're more than likely using Serato.)

Example of how Serato works:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/fSVqh6ryLho&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/fSVqh6ryLho&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Depending on your budget, you can cop a pair of 1200 Technics anywhere from $550-800, Mixers run around $150-$500, and you'd need some headphones and some good monitors along with needles.

All together if you can get some good deals you're looking at a bit over a $1000

Depending on your budget, you can cop a pair of 1200 Technics anywhere from $550-800, Mixers run around $150-$500, and you'd need some headphones and some good monitors along with needles.

All together if you can get some good deals you're looking at a bit over a $1000

that aint too bad a price, i almost bought a cheap pair for about 300 but i decided not to.
