Have no clue. It did seem to catch him right in the eye which is pretty bad. And for a guy who has been on the receiving end of some beatings and has come back from them to pull off the victory it leads me to believe that it was pretty bad. Shame cos it was a pretty good fight up until then. Hopefully we get a rematch.

Barring a consistent pattern you always have to give the fighter the benefit of the doubt. In any case I'm sure they'll be a immediate rematch as soon as Varner recovers from the broken hand and possibly a broken foot.

This fight was badass. IMO Varner was hurt, he was visibly upset by it and if anyone here has actually caught a knee to the temple, it's not fun. You usually go blind temporarily on the side that the knee landed. (If you heard Varner saying "Oh God, I can't see." That's the reason)

IMO Donald Cerrone with head movement > Nearly any 155lb fighter. In this fight, Cerrone took the hardest shots that Varner could land and kept marching forward. You would need an incredible chin to absorb these shots, since Varner is known to have knockout power. Cerrone's work off of his back was incredible as well, that rubber guard thing that he kept using was phenomenal for controlling Varner and I believe that the fight would have been stopped twice if Varner had not been saved by the bell.

Yeah I'm not sure what the issue was. Varner controlled the fight even if he spent a lot of time backing up. He was able to take down Cerrone at will and his ground n pound was excellent.

Cerrone was game and fought well but he didn't do enough to win.

Then I go next week to see my eye doctor to make sure my retina isn’t detached. And if it’s detached it could be a career-ending injury.”

Varner, who said he is still having trouble with his peripheral vision four days following the injury, has been indefinitely suspended until he can provide medical documentation that says the eye has recovered.
