Jay-Z and Jeezy do that black president rap, and people like Bill O'Reilly start attacking it. Rap is music, rap is entertainment. Its not classy the majority of the time. Its not a genre of good character, the majority of the time. It not intelligent, the majority of the time. Not to say it never is, but you know what I mean.
But the thing that bothers me is that it is not suppose to be all those things. And honestly if it was, it would probably be boring. When I'm in my car I don't want the tale of the intellectual playing. I listen to that every day in college. So its annoying that people seem to hold hip hop to that standard, like its wrong for being the way it is. In a perfect world, it is wrong, but we don't live in one. Its entertainment for young people, just as rock and metal are. And if were going attack hip hop artists for being classless, lets also attack rock groups, metal groups etc. Last time I checked Slipknot is not a group of saints.
****and once again this is not to say that rap can't be intelligent and classy, I'm not saying that. But the majority of it is not something an older upper class person would respect.****
but the overall point of the thread is, it isn't suppose to be. Any youthful(secular) genre isn't suppose to be. Its MUSIC, a form of entertainment. And in many instances what is entertaining isn't of good character. lol
Person 1: rap doesn't say things that make the world better, how can i respect it?
Me: did elvis say things that made the world better?
Person 1: No...
Me: But it entertained right?
Person 1: Yeah.
Me: Thats what its about, its music.
