View Full Version : After Dec.18th Where does the winner of Tarver/Johnson go
goodkingbudpuffer 11-10-2004, 02:52 PM Was just looking to get some feedback, besides RJJ, what kind of options are out there for these two guys i have heard talk about Tarver vs Tyson, Tarver vs Toney, but does anyone have any good idead on what will happen
Bombardier 11-10-2004, 02:55 PM If Briggs keep making noise the winner might want to take him on. Could be worth a bit of money if the hype is built up successfully.

defintly
the only options after this fight are up in the HW
altho i dont see GJ being to effective at full HW
but who knows
i didnt see him beating RJJ
much less knocking him the fuk out like he did
This is a really good question, where does the winner go? Ideally in my mind Vassily Jirov will get some sence and try and come down a bit in weight, maybe Tarver would like to settle an old score if he beats Johnson. Tarver v. Jirov would be amazing...wait a minute anyone vs. Jirov is amazing!
The1God 11-10-2004, 03:43 PM I cant see Tarver moving up to HW, his mouth is the only thing that woudl survive up there. Whoever wins, should hang around and take care of the mandatory defense fights (ala RJJ and Nard) sure its not good for the fans but it may be good for boxing. Completely dominate the division and prove that they are a true champ. I really don't think the winner of this fight needs to go anywhere, the fights and money will come to them. All the great fighters are 50+ lbs lighter than they are.
Neuraxis 11-10-2004, 04:25 PM Tarver would not be able to make it at HW, and Johnson would have even less of a chance than Tarver would. Toney wouldn't waste his time fighting one of these guys unless he has given up on trying to get a belt. I really only see them fighting Jirov if he is smart enough to move down in weight, or just staying at LHW.
ChrististheAnswer 11-10-2004, 04:27 PM I see the winner taking on Briggs. I just don't see either of these guys moving up to HW(however Tarver is fathomable. I just think the winner will face Briggs, its the most logical.
goodkingbudpuffer 11-10-2004, 04:44 PM don't know too much about briggs, besides he was a kickboxing champion, obviously the guys tough, but even if one of them takes briggs, then what?

Briggs is not the only good LHW out there:

m00ks 11-10-2004, 04:53 PM What happens?? LOL I'll tell you what happens...
A-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y nothing! They will realize that their names are nothing without RJJ and would have to come up weight to get any respectable recognition. There are no other "big" names at Light Heavy.
Soundtraveler 11-10-2004, 05:11 PM Neither Tarver nor Johnson are big enough to go up to the Heavyweight Division and make a splash - much less any waves!
With the ultra slow Ruiz hurt, there isn't a Heavyweight out there within reach, and Jirov has to get past Moorer, which I doubt will happen....
drag0n_ 11-10-2004, 06:26 PM Any of you guys think Calzaghe would ever face the winner of this fight? Or even the loser for this matter!?

Both guys have been stripped of their belts. So much for title defenses.
The winner, if it's Tarver, hopes he can lure Hopkins into a fight at 168. If it's Johnson, Bernard isn't going to fight him again. Then they either go back after a belt or maybe fight a small heavyweight - a Jirov or someone like that.

No. Calzaghe's fine with fighting no-names so he can retire undefeated.

triggerhappy 11-10-2004, 11:05 PM i wanna see jone rematch johnson
FistoftheDallasStar 11-10-2004, 11:10 PM Hopkins should fight the winner.
tntkid 11-10-2004, 11:12 PM I'd like to see Calzaghe fight the winner myself.
Tarver V Calzaghe would tell us a lot about Joe.
phallus 11-10-2004, 11:18 PM --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
and it's about his best possible option after Johnson
Epie2 11-11-2004, 12:20 AM Tarver has the better chance to establish a name after scoring the first KO win over RJJ. But then, he should remain at LH. If he goes up to the bigger guys, he'll got beat at Bob Foster experienced decades back.
To the lovely green grass of Cruiser & try to unify
goodkingbudpuffer 11-11-2004, 01:19 PM i have never claimed briggs was anything, but give me another LH name that is constantly brought up? i haven't heard of any more besides the same guys who were hangin around when RJJ was dominant
Prorock 11-11-2004, 01:37 PM I think the winner of this bout will fight with Hopkins.
goodkingbudpuffer 11-11-2004, 01:50 PM i would like to see tarver vs Hopkins, but not to thrilled with Johnson vs Hopkins, and what kind of catchweight would it be fought at like a super middle, you think tarver would hit that comfortably, he might but come fight night he would have Ex by 20 pds, he looks huge when not in fighting shape
t_tsuguri 11-11-2004, 03:06 PM hope glencoffe knocks that mofo out
bandito 11-11-2004, 08:27 PM well, both i think can fight joe calzaghe. that would be a good fight. then tarver can move up and face wayne braithwaite, vassily jirov, tyson, byrd, toney and if he really wants a fight he can fight for the heavyweight championship of the world and fight vitali. he will get knocked out, but he has that option. hopkins is not an option for tarver cuz hopkins is scared and will not move up. all talk. johnson will not move up to cruiser or heavy. he will stay at light heavy and could face michalczweski, or jeff lacy, or danny green and mayve move up to face braithwaite. briggs just isn't a big fight. i dont' want to see him fight tarver and im glad tarver didn't. im not saying he is not worthy, but is not a fight i want to see. let briggs fight tiozzo or michalczewski and if he beats them then he'll be on his way.
