View Full Version : Why Doesn't Mobb Deep Get More Credit?
Truth 01-22-2009, 10:36 PM why?????????????? I saw somebody make a thread one time about who is the greatest rap group, and they were left out. To me thats crazy.
Prodigy is a great lyricist at his best and has a grimey voice thats perfect of this style.
Havoc is a great(extremley underrated producer)lyricist and a great producer.
they've put out classics...
why don't people talk about them more?

Eric Holder 01-22-2009, 10:43 PM their first 3 albums were classics and Havoc's one of the best producers ever but the reason they don't get credit anymore(at least from the people I know) is cause of "Takeover"
I don't care if you Mobb Deep, I hold triggers to crews
You little ****, I've got money stacks bigger than you
When I was pushin weight, back in eighty-eight
you was a ballerina I got your pictures I seen ya
Then you dropped "Shook Ones," switch your demeanor

Jay did his thng. Jay is my favorite mc all time
but lets be honest
**Jay has money stacks bigger than himself
**that ballerina picture was when p was real young. and i don't even think it was ballerina costume
**jay switched his rap persona to a huslter. mobb deep was gangsta right off the bat.
**plus even tho jay has alot more money than mobb deep, he has alot more money than everybody. Money isn't everything anyway.
not to say jay's story isn't true, but he started off rapping about different things with jazzo and big daddy kane. Like I said I believe in jay's street past, but he did change up his rap style to a hustler style in 96
Truth 01-22-2009, 10:56 PM takeover sounded great, musically it was a great song. but alot of the stuff jay said wasn't really true.
and this is coming from a hardcore jay fan

I know what you mean man, I've seen the haiwain sophie video :lol1:
but I know a lot of people who sided with Jay and wrote off Mobb after that beef and them signing to g-unit made it worse
personally I think Mobb still makes good albums

yeah those people are wrong to do that.
I don't blame Jay for doing the sophie video, at that point he was trying to get into the music industry and off the street.

some more classic MOBB
They dont get credit because they went from great to TRASH after Murda Muzik. I mean listen to Prodigy now? He is mega trash "I need that *****, I rock that *****, to boost my adrenline."
I used to ask the same question after I herd the Infamous, then I herd everything after Murda Muzik and couldnt believe it was even the same group.
The closest they came to hitting the old Mobb sound was probably "When You Hear The" off of Amerikaz Nightmare, and Put Em In There Place
KILLA RIGHT 01-23-2009, 04:02 AM Havoc was a beast on the boards p sick on the mic. But they just talked about the same **** every album and are now trash. But we can always bump their classic **** and only a few groups can touch their catalog

Thats because jay-z has more stans then mobb deep. His style is more commercial, of course people are gonna side with him. Why get caught up in what the majority of hip hop fans think? The majority of hip hop fans apparently think lil wayne is the best lyricist, lollipop was a great song, and Carter 3 was the album of the year

If you werent feeling HNIC then I dont know what to say. People who listen to them say they still make good music, saying they're trash now is just exposing yourself. Havoc never fell off. Hes still nice with the beats. People dont like them now because gangster rap is no longer commercial rap.

Exposing myself? I almost got into fight defending them in high school when I sed they were nicer then G-Unit, dont get out of pocket son. Havoc was never super nice, he was maybe good but was always a compliment to Prodigy.
HNIC is not a Mobb Deep album its a Prodigy album and it was before Infamy, I said they sucked after that

Those rhymes that I put up, those is nice to you?? Let Wayne spit them bars and watch how quickly you would say how garbage it is.
Prodigy is trash, Havoc is a good producer but a bland rapper.
They WERE NICE, WERE being the main word. You cant tell me you can hear classics like Drink The Pain Away, Right Back At You, Eye For An Eye, and then listen to those lyrics I just posted and actually say Mobb Deep Still got it?
And if you can say it then hey its your opinion and I'll respect it cuz its yours but my opinion is that them dudes have been mega trash since Infamy dropped, and I used to be the biggest supporter of them and still support my dog Big Noyd and Littles

first off my bad, i thought your were saying they were garbage from hnic on. I really dont think infamy was that bad, P went hard on that and Havocs beats were real nice. Their worst album was blood money, and thats including all of prodigys cds. Even that had a couple bangers on it in my opinion.
Not many rappers are as nice as they were in the 90's. Jay-z? Nas? **** no, they might not have dropped off as much as P did but they certainly aint what they were. And i think thats more because of a change in times, and styles. Its 2009 now, its not 98 anymore as much as i wish it was. All these rappers are dumbin it down.
Those specific lines you quoted arent nice, i got no problem admitting to when prodigys lines are weak. Hes had some good songs recently though, have you checked out return of the mac, hnic 2, and product of the 80's?
Another thing is your right, from Infamy on Prodigy wasnt what he was prior to that. But if mobb deep was a new group in 2001, people wouldnt be hating on them the way they are. Its because they're always compared to their first 3 or 4 albums.
If you think prodigy is trash theres not much i can do, its not a big deal to me. Its your opinion and im not on some stanley ****. I respect it, i gotta respect you for almost gettin into a fight over mobb deep, and knowing their earlier music.

Prodigy can still make a good song and he can still make a complete album unlike many of the younger rappers in the game.

What P album is this from?
MetalVomit 01-23-2009, 03:20 PM I don't think Mobb Deep lost credit because of The Takeover, I think they lost it when they/Prodigy started putting out half assed material. Production wise, it's held up, but lyrically, both have fallen off, especially Prodigy. I'm saying this as a former HUGE Mobb Deep fan. Murda Muzik is one of my top 10 favorite rap albums ever. Infamy is sick, The Infamous and Hell on Earth are classics. They fell off of the top-notch hip hop wagon around 2001 and have not returned. Amerikka's Nightmare was solid production-wise, but lyrically, terrible.
