I was checking out some rings for my fiance. I atleast went to five jewelers. Haven't gone to NYC yet like Nick advised me. But I found this ring 1.03 carat ring. G color and a vs2. round cut. That was to my liking. Barganing price was $6,500. I didn't like the band. It had some diamonds on it too. I figure I'am old fashioned. I just wanted a simple platinum band. Nothing on it. Plus, it'll reduce the price. I have five grand cash to spend. The guy said he can work in that price range. Plus the insurance for it. Which is kinda cool. I know I'am not gonna buy right awayl. I'am gonna look around some more. The dealer said, I had to worry about the platinum band cuz the prongs aren't as sturdy as a gold or white gold band. So, they could snap off. Have you guys ever heard of that? Oh and not to worry Nick its GIA certified. I looked at the stone through that microcopic doohicky. No, blemishes like tiny black particles or any cracks. It's bling blingin. I just wanted to hear if you guys had any experience with this stuff. And can offer any insight onto where to buy or just any advice at all.

Forget your GF and the $5g engagement ring and get yourself a platinum and ice grill. You'll get mad hoes then, you won't need no wife.

I gotta go with Zen and his theories about the iced grill and mad hoes.

Did she tell you what she wanted at all? What style of jewelry does she usually go for? Does she have very traditional taste?

I thought what ever you got for her. She would love you for it. Not just for the ring. She has't really utterd anything to a style or cut or anything like that. Man for the money I'am dishing out I hope she'll like it. I may not make as much as most of you. But damn five grand is alot for me.

Thats my point. Some women dont like a big diamond stone. Like me. BEFORE you go and spend 5,000, get some hints..look at the rest of her jewelry..

she will like what you get her, but don't take wild guesses at something costing you so much..

maybe she'd rather have something not so typical..Maybe a different colored stone, or an antique, or a family stone put into a new setting..

Is there a close girlfriend of hers that could go shopping with you without ruining the surprise?

For $3000 I got my girl a nice size princess cut diamond on white gold. She loved it. The fact that you are proposing should be more important than the rock itself....don't overspend, you'll need the money later....trust me.

She's going to wear it for the rest of her life, hopefully..You owe it to at least make sure it fits her style...

Nuno is right unless you have 5g's laying around..I wouldn't go spending that kinda money especially when you can get just a good of a color and clarity for about 1500 less

I could just bring her with me. The reason I want to get something that expensive anyway. Is for posterities sake. I want to leave my daughter or son behind just in case we do happen to die.

I took my girl with me the first time just to get an idea of what she was looking for

You've got about a 45% chance of this **** lasting til death do you part. Go to A City, where you at least have a 50/50 chance of doubling up your money on 1 hand of blackjack. If you win, you can get the engagement ring and still have $5 large in your pocket, if you lose it wasn't meant to be. I know what I'm talking about, you've got to play the better odds on this one.

Hahahaha! Zen is wise! listen to Zen. If you gamble away her ring, it just wasn't meant to be....If you win, then the ***** is a LUCKY CHARM!!!

Good idea to get her something nice now, but definitely find out what style she would want. Me and hubby only spent $500 for all three rings at the time because that's all we could afford. If we could have afforded more, I would have gotten something a little bigger at the time, now, I wouldn't trade my ring for anything considering what it stands for.

I have told him exactly what I want my Anniversary ring to look like though.:)

He didn't ask for the ring back?

Allison

Of course not, but I was joking about selling it, anyhow.

Marriage is the number one cause of divorce.

That said, a woman should be happy with any ring, 100 bucks or 1000 or 10,000. It's sad that some women feel that they need some rock the size of Montana on their hand to impress their friends or gain some kind of social status.

Also, if he's proposing, i'm sure he has a sence of her liking of ring type and style....least i would hope.

I wouldn't assume so. Lots of people are together or married for years, and the man still can't pick something out for the woman.

I would suggest the round cut..very elegant..

Yah, I've been with her for like close to six years. I think I know her style already. Get this I went on Tiffany's website. There's a ring for like 4,350 and a round cut. I didn't think Tiffany rings went down that low.
