Most believe that Fat Joe, who had pap and possibly a small crew outnumbered, beat up papoose a maybe a couple others who were with him. Im not sure if it was a sohh poster, fat joe, or papoose that was the first to use the term "the beats" but I believe thats when "the beats" started. I still see it used from time to time.
