View Full Version : Now ladies and gentlemen, is Mauricio Shogun Rua finished?? Dice 01-18-2009, 03:03 AM I predicted he was, people sed wait til after UFC 93 and he still looks shot to me. Palma 01-18-2009, 03:07 AM Guy has no cardio! number6 01-18-2009, 09:39 AM I have to agree I thought he was the future of the Lightheavyweight division until last night. After watching the Griffin fight i thought it was just a fitness problem due to the recovery of a bad injury, but after last night im convinced for sure that hes finished. Coleman gassed after 2 mins as most thought he would, but yet Shogun couldnt do anything with him. He looked like he had nothing left himself after the half way through the second round. Coleman had his chances to win the fight at the end. Shoguns cardio levels are nowhere near good enough at this sort of level, alot of the UFC lightheavyweights would have took him out last night. vinnie7731 01-18-2009, 09:50 AM I predicted he was, people sed wait til after UFC 93 and he still looks shot to me. I seriously think Dana just did it as a favor to Coleman and to say, heres some money for the work you did for the sport NOW GET OUT jakkups 01-18-2009, 10:46 AM I seriously think Dana just did it as a favor to Coleman and to say, heres some money for the work you did for the sport NOW GET OUT Hopefully he does the same with Randy, Chuck and Wanderlei. Dice 01-18-2009, 10:49 AM Hopefully he does the same with Randy, Chuck and Wanderlei. Those guys actually win though, and if not that they draw big crowds, im seriously thinking of making the trip to Canada for UFC 97 since its Rua vs Liddell and the p4p best in MMA Thales Leites vs a kinda decent brazilian named Anderson Silva who has the tools but may b too green to beat a monster like Thales jakkups 01-18-2009, 10:56 AM Those guys actually win though, and if not that they draw big crowds, im seriously thinking of making the trip to Canada for UFC 97 since its Rua vs Liddell and the p4p best in MMA Thales Leites vs a kinda decent brazilian named Anderson Silva who has the tools but may b too green to beat a monster like Thales Draw big crowds yes but quite frankly if they perform like this for much longer then stock will drop. http://i39.tinypic.com/o0rns1.jpg http://i33.tinypic.com/11t9920.jpg http://i33.tinypic.com/2vsjgpy.gif YUHHHHHHH! 01-18-2009, 12:44 PM I think that if they can perform, they should still be able to fight. Please believe me when I say that Chuck and Wanderlei still have a few knockouts left in them. And with Chuck, if the Rua fight goes through that might just prove my point. As for Couture? Maybe help him retire on a win against a decent Heavyweight prospect. When you get knocked down by a glancing blow like he did, it's time to start preserving your health. jakkups 01-18-2009, 12:52 PM I think that if they can perform, they should still be able to fight. In all honesty I felt Couture should've retired after the fight with Gonzaga. I mean him along with Wanderlei and Chuck have already established a legacy, have been long standing elite fighters and have plenty of memorable moments in their careers. Whether they can't still fight is not what they should be lookng at. It's whether they can fight to the level that is needed to compete with the top guys in the division. I mean Ken Shamrock can still fight, but he shouldn't because he's no threat whatsoever to anyone at HW or LHW and due to his bullheaded attitude he won't retire. I'd like to think that Wanderlei, Chuck and Randy have more sense and choose to retire with dignity rather than fighting on like Shamrock or Coleman. Savino 01-18-2009, 01:11 PM Finished? No. The man aint fough in over a year and he was bound to gas after the first round. I think if he can have about 3 this year and can stay injury free you will see the best of him again. Ok, he looked poor against an old fighter in Coleman but like I said what do you expect for ya first fight in over a year. You see UFC fighters who fight 3 or 4 times a year gas in a round or two. jakkups 01-18-2009, 01:25 PM Finished? No. The man aint fough in over a year and he was bound to gas after the first round. Name these UFC fighters that are gassing out while fighting an old man like Coleman? Shogun is supposed to be one of the best in the division and he can't even look convincing against this guy. Forget the fact that he was out of action. Randy Couture took a year off after the 2nd loss to Liddell and came back and won the HW championship of the world against a guy who outweighed him by 40lb+ and had half a foot in height on him and he was 43 years old. Rua is 27 and looked bad against a guy who is 44 years old, who has been past his prime since 2003, who hadn't fought in over 2 years and who had gassed after 2 mins. The fact that he couldn't finish him until the last minute of the fight was ridiculous. He may not be finished, but he's got alot to prove for me to consider him a viable threat at 205lbs. Im just saying Shougun done alright for his first fight in over a year and coming off surgery what did you expect? Forrest Griffin will be the same when he comes back. StillUnknown 01-18-2009, 02:14 PM giving them a fight of the night bonus was undeserving. i did a double-take when i saw they were given a bonus for that ****ty fight. fights like that should not be encouraged. when Chuck KO's Shogun, i expect shogun to be released jakkups 01-18-2009, 02:15 PM I never said that the is fighters who fight 44year old and gass out. Yeah but those fighters are fighting guys around their age who are on the up and aren't shot. And even if they tire it's nothing like this fight. They basically stood there and looked at each other and every now and again did something. With Forrest you can't assume anything because until it happens then it's all assumption not fact. Plenty of people on here were adamant that Shogun would run through both Griffin and Coleman, and now that he's looked like crap everyone looks for the excuses. If you think Shogun did alright then fair enough, but just cos he had surgery on one leg doesn't justify it much. I mentioned in another thread that Anderson Silva beat Travis Lutter after coming back from surgery he had 10 weeks prior. If Anderson can do it then a guy who was considered by many to be on the same level as him should have no problem doing it especially when you're gifted an old shriveled up apple like Coleman for an opponent. P.S. You checked out Wolfslair yet? Savino 01-18-2009, 02:21 PM Yeah but those fighters are fighting guys around their age who are on the up and aren't shot. Plus couple with BJJ makes a lethal combination cos IMO they mesh pretty well and compliment each other. Savino 01-18-2009, 02:36 PM Muay Thai is awesome. Gotta be in shape though. My mate started Muay Thai last year at a local camp and he lost 6stone in 10month. He started BJJ at the Wolfslair just before X-mas and said it is so hard but he is a junkie to it. I found out it is £6 a lesson for 1 and half hours lesson. Gonna give them a ring tomorrow after work about booking afew lessons. |
