Josh Barnett and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira have already fought each other twice in two highly entertaining back-and-forth battles, with each winning one. The first time they fought Barnett edged out Nog by decision in the semi-finals of the Pride Heavywieght GP in 2006, with Nog getting his revenge a few months later at Shockwave 2006. Both fights were extremely close and left many fans debating on who actually won each fight, and with each of them being split it seemed only a matter of time before they would fight for a third time to finally settly once and for all who really is the better man.
Then Nog went to the UFC and that prospect seemed to drop faster than Chevy Chase’ career in the nineties.
But according to a recent interview with 8 Count, Josh Barnett still wants the fight. Sure, Nog seems like he may have lost a step or two, but Josh doesn’t care. He just want’s to, in the immortal words of Rampage Jackson, “Whup that ass.”
8CN - Mir really looked good in his last fight.
Josh Barnett - Yeah, but I think what is shocking is how, not good, Nougeira looked. I’m sure Mir is sick of hearing how Nog is washed up instead of how Mir performed well, but it’s the biggest victory he has to date, and anyone who’s followed Nog and seen him fight in the past knows that he just looked so terrible.
8CN - Would you want to fight Nog a 3rd time?
Josh Barnett – Absolutely. I don’t care if he’s washed up I just want to beat the crap out of him
Anyone who knows the history of Dana White and Josh Barnett knows that there is no way that this fight will happen unless Nog leaves the UFC. There just seems to be too much bad blood there. Would I like to see Barnett in the UFC, of course, but sadly things do not just happen because I want them to.
They will someday, but just not now.
