this is what i know

cleto reyes = majority of lower weight classes use this/most expensive/less padding for more punching power/less padding means more prone to injury.

grant = middleweights or heavier use this/more padding means more protection/not as pricey as reyes but still up there/still has power but not reyes like due to padding.

winning = expensive. thats all i know. expensive.

title = i have no idea but i like their prices and i havent really read much complaint about them.

top contender = cheap like everlast but better quality and durability.

everlast = neverlast.

this is what i know from doing my research from last night. can anyone else give me some brands because im thinking of buying a boxing glove that isnt expensive but i do have enough money to buy decent training gloves just not the $80+ ones.

right now my choices are title and top contender. im hearing alot from ringside too. but i dont really know yet.

winning = p4p #1 glove for hand protection, and protection for your sparring opponent. there must be some reason why today's top fighters use them for training. margarito, mosley, cotto, pacquiao, mayweather, etc.

everlast cheap line = neverlast.

everlast's pro line, however = great stuff.

i'd go with the ringside imf tech 16oz gloves for training. or the title gel.

Title Gel.

One thing to remember is lace up still offers very good wrist support without the weight of hook and loop. yes H&L gloves are alot heavier.

For sparring or bag gloves i highly suggest rival gloves. They are a pretty new company, i have 1 pair of bag gloves and 1 pair of sparring gloves and i will never buy any other brand. I had my bag gloves for almost a year and they are the same as when i bought them.

Thats comming from a guy that used to go through a pair of bag gloves every 3-4 months.

I might sound like i'm working for them or something but i am not, i'm just a satisfied customer, the only gloves that can come even close are titles in terms of protection and even then the rivals have more durability.

yea I have rivals to, they offer tons of protection. Little heavier than the average glove though, 12's feel like 14's, 10's feel like 12's imo.

Another vote for Rival.

I have to disagree with them feeling heavier though, atleast their sparring gloves. I have 18oz sparring gloves and everyone who tries them on says they feel lighter than the 16oz gloves we have at the gym.

I have been boxing for 3 years now and used a pair of ringside gloves for training for 2 and 1/2 years. At that time i started to develop wrist problems and was wincing in pain everytime i threw a right hand at a bag or mitt, tried everything, better wraps, other gloves, no help. I herd at about winning and took a chance on them knowing they are like 250bucks. could not be more happy with them. Absolutly no pain anymore. Hands down the best gloves you can get for hand/wrist protection...

^ im with this guy 100%. i injured one of my metacarpal bones in my right hand, while using the ringside imf tech 16oz training gloves, on the heavybag, back in november 2007.

ever since that injury, i took a month off, then resumed training. ive been using the same gloves, but on the water/foam heavybags. it doesnt hurt much anymore, but i can still feel minor pain.

i decided to try out the 16oz Winning laceup gloves. i got them last month.

and wow, big difference. i was back to banging away full power on the regular leather heavybags, with no kind of pain at all.

Winning is absolutely P4P #1 when it comes to hand protection.

I use IMF-tech's now , they do just fine for me, not as good as the old Ringside I had. But all this talk about Winnings has me salivating and am very tempted to give it a try.

When I use to train for tourneys, the problems I ran into wasn't so much hand pain but elbow pain. The thing too, it's much better to use lace-ups rather than the hook & loops. The lace ups gives you better wrist support.

Also, I think some people are just prone to hand injuries no matter what. I've never injured my hand or wrist(knock on wood). I've used Ringside, messed around with Cletos(didn't like 'em for training), Fairtex(so-so). Again, it's only been elbow problems for me.

Another thing too, maybe it's how some people wrap their hands. I like to put alot of padding on the knuckle area. And how the wrist positioned right before impact.

true, lace-ups give better support. i have the imf tech and winning gloves. both in lace-up. for the wrist protection/stability, i'd rate the imf 8/10. i'd rate the winning a 10/10. there is a difference, trust me. imf tech are still good gloves though, it's just unfortunate that i injured my right hand in them.

I got the Title power weighted super bag gloves. They have weights in the wrist of the glove. If you dont want the weights, you can take em out and they will be regular 12oz gloves.

I use Title Classics which are ok. The padding in them is decent and they offer decent protection, but nothing special. They are durable which is good. I've tried Ringside International Training Gloves a few times and they're great. Really comfortable, good padding, and they seem durable. Once I come up with some more money I'm going to get a pair. If you have $80 to spend, get the Ringside International's.

WINNING GLOVES CREAM OF THE CROP. if you have the money its well worth it. they last long and the comfort is non compairable. i will NEVER use a different brand of gloves. UNLESS SPONSERED OF COURSE. HAHAHHA

the best gloves i've ever owned.. PERIOD. and i've owned them all... great great protection for you, i've never once hurt my hands in a pair of Winning (i've hurt my hands in fights and sparring with Everlast, Title, Top Contender, and ESPECIALLY Reyes)

true.. true, i actually know the owner Kazumichi and talk with him pretty often... he doesnt make any Champions pay for gear... Mayweather, Manny, Oscar, Margarito, Mosley, Cotto, Morales none of them

says its not about the money, doesnt concern him.... its about doing whats right and helping people

Despite what people say about Title Gel gloves, they are absolutely horrible. They are build weird, and place this awkward pressure on my thumb joint when you try and make a fist. Throw in that the padding on the knuckles is THIN and you have a horrible glove. Every time I throw a punch with them I feel like I am going to bruise my knuckles.

They are not even comparable to the Ringside IMF gloves.

im getting a part time job right and i wanna save up for a good quality pair of gloves

Grant easy... reys gloves are second to none when you are in actual fight, but if you are going to be training with em, id bet that you will eventually hurt yourself, there to hard even there training gloves. get the grants there nice.
However, if it was me id save up a little longer and get a pair of winning gloves, there second to none....

cool, ill most likely get the grants, but i will have a look at winnings too

thanks

EDIT: although i did hear shawn say once that grants bust peoples faces up and are really hard, i dont wanna do that to my sparring partners since we are all fighting often and getting an unneccessary cut or nasty bruise or whatever could cancel a fight....

so has anyone else had that experience witht he grants?

The grants will be fine, half of my gym use them for sparring. The grant pro training gloves.

Cletos will do that to your sparring partners but grants wil be ok.

How long ago did you have title gels? I just got mine and they are amazing, very shock absorbent, comfortable and the thumb sits perfect. How much do you weigh? Dont they not make the imf tech training in lace up? That is what turned me away from them.

those look ok, if you want to take my word for it i can recomend to you the best training gloves within your budget. Ringside IMF tech lace up training gloves. Get them they are great, alot of pple swear by them. I also have title gels for bagwork and they are very nice. VERY comfortbale and perfect fit. Also they are very shock absorbent and supportive. You wont really have a problem with any of those two.
