Traditional Catholics took part in a sacrifice to reaffirm their faith. I’m not talking about the physical sacrifices, I’m talking about internal… i.e. not marrying, fasting, setting aside time to worship in free-time, etc. Other divisions and opinions made priests kneel down and flog themselves in private, thus with every lashing they created on their back over their shoulder, they would be punishing themselves for their sins and forcing their internal discipline to be stronger. What do you think of all of this?

I believe sacrifices are good; to the point of lashing yourself I do not believe however. The absence of alcohol, women, lust, etc. I do respect and can understand why they take part in this.

I think thats a major part of the reason there are so many sex scandles in the catholic church.

First, its all male. No women. Then you tell them they aren't allowed to think of sex lust or pleasures of the flesh. Then you lock them in a dark room and make them listen to everyone elses dirty little secrets and if they do have dirty thoughts they have to pray to a virgin.

Something is gonna give

I've been going to an Opus Dei school for 12 years and I can say they used a kind of ****ed chain around their left leg, other sacrifices are: not getting married, getting married but do a lot of children, live in community, give more of the half part of the money that they earn, go to the church every day, make three pray sessions in the day minim, don't go to the beach (they could fall in the flesh sin)...

Sacrifises should be part of an everyday life. I beleive in fasting, mental comitment ie: worship time, study your belief, spread the word when deemed or appropiate.

Self mutilation and other forms of corporal punishment is ok in certain religions and if your religion calls for that I guess is fine as long you do not hinder you ability to carry on everyday task or breaking the law!

Study your faith of choce and find out what kind of commitment s you ahve to make to become a better person.

Any religion deserves my sacrifice, If I make a sacrifice is for my friends and family...what sacrifice makes a religion for me?...

I have no desire nor ambition to go to any church for sunday mass, let alone give up women. Good for the priest and those that do, but that's just not for me.

That is why the "Calling" is not for everyone. Those that make the choice have to live with that in mind.
Preist are human and they could make mistakes, be tempted, even question their own faith, but the difference is when those moments happen th echose to stick by their guns and make the sacrifice!

If I was gonna be religious, I'd pick Voodoo as my religion. I always thought using a voodoo doll on somebody would be funny as hell.
