Roger Ebert's review reflects my own opinions of the movie...

Edward Zwick's "The Last Samurai" is about two warriors whose cultures make them aliens, but whose values make them comrades. The battle scenes are stirring and elegantly mounted, but they are less about who wins than about what can be proven by dying. Beautifully designed, intelligently written, acted with conviction, it's an uncommonly thoughtful epic. Its power is compromised only by an ending that sheepishly backs away from what the film is really about.................

Great movie. Return of the King was great. I can't remember the other movies I saw besides those two so I'll go with The Last Samurai also. The side effects of THC....

I saw The Hours I think it was called. That was actually a really good movie. Taught me some things about myself.

I never go to the movies so I would have to say the best movies of 2003 that I have seen would have to be rabbit proof fence( I don't care if it's from 2002 **** you) and whale rider. I'm growing to hate american movies lately. I was ten mintues into sea biscuit and I wanted to shoot myself.

I do want to see big fish and I haven't seen kill bill yet.
Oh yeah Finding Nemo kicked ass too.

The last Samurai is like watching Braveheart does Japan, but I liked it.
LOTR was OK too.

X2 is a really good choice. Kill Bill was good. I still liked The Last Samurai the best.

I didn't make it to theaters much last year, takes alot to get me to pay ten bucks a ticket to have my chair kicked and listen to some idiot talk on their cell phone, so the best theater movie i would say was Pirates of the Caribbean. Rented best was probably The Life of David Gale. And i just went and saw Big Fish last night nd that was better than any movie i've seen in the last year.

If anyone is interested in memento check this opinion:
We had already seen Leonard being used by Natalie to accomplish her own ends (i.e., the revenge killing of Teddy for what Natalie believed to be Teddy's murder of her boyfriend Jimmy ), but we soon find out that other people had been using Leonard as well. Teddy has been using Leonard for some time. At the end of the movie, there were only a couple of things that I was pretty sure of. First, Jimmy was not the James G that Leonard was really looking for. Second, Teddy was not the James G that Leonard was really looking for. Possibly a third, the flashbacks are not believeable as they are from Leonard and he has brain damage. Other possible conclusions, Teddy gave Leonard the police report (w/ missing pages) to help maintain the James G. story/quest.
Leonard is a former insurance investigator. Leonard actually killed his wife with an insulin overdose, was judged incompentent, sentenced to a mental factility, and invented the story Sammy Jankis (and James G) as a fantasy to escape his guilt/grief. Leonard was an escaped mental patient being used by lowlifes to accomplish their plans (be it revenge or money).

However, if this is true then why doesn't Leonard remember his wife had diabetes? Yet as Leonard reminds us, "Memory's unreliable ... Memory's not perfect. It's not even that good. Ask the police; eyewitness testimony is unreliable ... Memory can change the shape of a room or the color of a car. It's an interpretation, not a record. Memories can be changed or distorted, and they're irrelevant if you have the facts."
