As 2008 came to a close, so did World Extreme Cagefighting's 185- and 205-pound weight divisions. But as one door closes another opens.

MMAWeekly.com sources on Tuesday revealed that the WEC is adding a 125-pound flyweight division. With WEC 38 in San Diego just three weeks away, no 125-pound bouts are expected for that fight card. The promotion's next event, likely in March, is a more apt candidate to host the WEC's new commitment to flyweight fighters.

Now they just need a female division, after that they should merge 170 with the UFC.

I've been waiting to see this happen. Flyweights are crazy to watch, like Uriah Faber on speed.

YUHHHHHHH!

I like this move.

I've found that I enjoy watching the little guys bang more often than not. From the starting bell these guys are out there going at 100mph most of the time.

I don't like this. All they're going to try and do is rape the PFC's FlyW roster.

And give themand the division as a whole more exposure than they have evr had before. It's a smart move. I'm willing to bet that most outside of the hardcore fans didn't even know that divisions existed below 155lbs before Zuffa got hold of the WEC, and the fact that they focus soley on the lighter divisions is fantastic for the sport.

The PFC is a local promotion that I don't want to see losing it's top Flyweights. The WEC only added the division to pick off the PFC talent.

Big bank take little bank. Look at it this way though, at least those Flyweights are gonna get more pay out of sponsers due to the bigger exposure.

And besides you cant deny the WEC of all promotions makes stars, I mean be real no one would know who the hell Urijah Faber or Miguel Torres is if it wasnt for WEC, I mean people still dont know who Kid Yammamoto is who in my opinion could be the real king of the featherweights

they should send their top 170lb'ers to the UFC like they did with the MW & LHW, then add a women's division and they would be set

The PFC takes care of their fighters financially. They have a nearly unlimited resource of money to spend on these guys.

I think they'd be more interested in the Shooto flyweights rather than PFC ones, especially when the top guys in the division all fight for shooto.

I can't argue that they'd get more sponsorship money, because they would. But they would not get paid more by the WEC.

I do feel your sentiments some what, I dont really like Zuffa being the only big dog in town but business is business so I cant fault them to much.
