I know of one person who will be rooting against Manny. She thinks that we're too nationally obsessed with his success and live vicariously through him instead of facing up to our own national issues and problems. It's like what Marx said about religion being the opiate of the masses. Our national psyche is put in a dreamlike state whenever he fights, and we forget to act on improving ourselves because we think we can identify with Manny. She might be right. Manny's success as a boxer has absolutely nothing to do with him being Filipino. In fact, he succeeded in spite of the terrible conditions here which are not conducive to athletic success at any level.

the argument is flawed on so many levels. manny fights for a daw and i think we can spare a day on improving ourselves and the fact that manny made it is an inspiration to everyone. ambobo nman ng pinoy kung iisipin na ay si manny mayaman ok na tayo.
