View Full Version : At what age do you think you'll stop listening to street style rap?
Truth 01-01-2009, 04:15 PM i don't even like asking this question, lol...but lets be honest, rap is a genre for young people. I think when I get married(not that i will be old at that point, but you know what i mean), I'm going to step away from rap with obscene lyrics, and move to more clean rap. I just don't think it would be right at that point to be listening to Reasonable doubt etc. lol
Pico Hollywood 01-01-2009, 04:33 PM people listen to whatever their generation usually listened to at the time of their youth, So I'm guessing rap will evolve more and we will be Bumpin our era's **** while the youth will have their own artists of that time and they will claim that we are old school and such **** like that

Well a person might want to do it for their kids since kids watch everything you do.
Aside from that I would say this. You should outgrow listening to gangsta rappers just because their "gangsta" around your mid twenties at the latest. In reality, I like Biggie despite the fact that he is a gangsta rapper not because of it. What I really like is his story telling and powers of description, flow and creativity. Sometime you do feel silly listening to him because of what he's talking about.
If you cut all that stuff out it won't be too bad, you got Gangstarr, Nice and Smooth , The Roots and plenty of other acts.
MegStarr* 01-03-2009, 01:01 AM i can't predict the answer to this question. it's not like you can force yourself to change your taste.
but what i do know as of right now is that i have yet to find anything that moves me in the way that hip hop does, regardless of vulgarities or obscene and disrespectful verbal gestures towards women (as i am a female, and this often rubs women the wrong way when it comes to hip hop). i think that the obscenities is part of what is attractive about hip hop. subconsciously i think that we all want to hear something outrageous. that, "damn, did he really just say that?" factor contributes to hip hop's magnetism, more so for some than others, and what would be deemed "gangsta rap" is full of moments like those.

Bingo.
When you have kids and are a decent parent, you monitor what they listen too and watch. I was bumpin J Zone with my sons in the back and they were 5 and 3, Zone says, "breath smells like a bag of buttcheeks". 5 year old says, "ewwww". Sometimes we forget how smart our kids are and how much they pay attention to things. After that and hearing him recite the words to "Pass That", I had to really watch what I put on around them.
But I also am just not impressed by any "gangsta" rappers today. Its entirely played out when you've listened to every tom, dick and harry claim to be the worlds baddest man. I'm not 14, that **** doesn't impress me.
