View Full Version : Is this the next big heavyweight?
GranTorino 11-09-2004, 05:04 PM Take a look at this guy, fellas. Like Samuel Peter, he is apparently a freight train, knocking out everyone. Has anyone heard of him?

Neuraxis 11-09-2004, 05:06 PM No, don't you know that its illegal for there to be good heavyweights from Europe. And I don't that a freight train would fail to KO Pudar and Shufford.
dempseyfire 11-09-2004, 05:07 PM He's pretty good. Not great, but could be a top guy in the division. Maybe the best HW prospect I've seen recently but sadly that's not saying much. He has good handspeed and very good power on his left hand. Pretyy good reflexes. Pretty one dimesional in terms of boxing skills though. Can do a wicked body punch however . . .
Soundtraveler 11-09-2004, 05:12 PM Yeah, he fought down here on the Gulf Coast a year or two ago, he isn't particularly tall but he has a pretty good punch, not great mind you, but pretty good, he looked kind of sloppy but he has had a year or two to get a bit more polished...

You've obviously seen him fight, any idea whwere I could dl one of his fights?
isnt he signed to showtime. i think i seen him fight before. in the fight i seen him in he didnt look that good but his highlights were all brutal kos
dempseyfire 11-09-2004, 08:49 PM soundtraveler-I knew I recognized you . . . you're the announcer at those boxing shows in Kenner (?-my memory is bad) You did the announcing at the Clifford Ettiene fight last spring . . . . you're a very good announcer.
tntkid 11-09-2004, 10:03 PM Never even heard of this guy before?
Looks like a lot a bums on his record I know that!

Ahh, the secret is out! Yes I am the announcer in Kenner, Gulfport, Biloxi, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Memphis and so many more cities in the Gulf South!
I thank you for your kind words, I try to give every fighter an introduction like it was his (or her) shot at the title.
I believe the announcer is an extension of the show itself, basically, the promoter hires me to make the fight sound as exciting, and as big time as possible after all, he is bringing a SHOW to town. I also view my job as a time honored tradition, as much of a part of the sport as the ropes, I mean - even the Romans had announcers for their gladiators to make them sound larger than life! And that is my job, I have to make everyone watching think this next fight is going to be the best fight they have ever seen...
ispayder 11-09-2004, 10:16 PM Never seen any fight of this guy yet, but his record is very impressive.
whdempsey 11-09-2004, 10:30 PM Yeh, I saw him fight Zakeem Graham. I wasn't hugely impressed, I mean he was certainly heavy handed and pretty good mechanically, but vintage Mike Tyson he was not. He looked more like Frans Botha.
One thing that stands out to me is his amateur pedigree. Apparently he beat Felix Savon twice. That's huge.

Yep, that about sums him up in a nutshell - good job!
LeFtHooK24 11-09-2004, 11:49 PM Who the hell is he and where is the dude from, never heard of him
TheGreat1 11-10-2004, 03:24 AM i saw his last fight on showtime, wasn't impressed at all. although his highlights where nice. i think he is due to fight again onm showtime dec 4 on the jeff lacy undercard. he is huge. any of the top 5 would tear him a apart.
dempseyfire 11-10-2004, 09:05 AM you can see one of his fights on the Universum website . . . he was also on showtime a couple years back kicking Calloway's ass . . .
realdeal75 11-10-2004, 10:40 AM Samuel Peter will be facing Jeremy Williams December 4th on showtime. This will be his first real test, then we can really discuss if this guy can be somebody.
jabsRstiff 11-10-2004, 10:48 AM This guy (Chagaev) is nothing special. Kinda slow, methodical. A lefty who's all about the left hand. No jab or right hook to speak of..defense is suspect & he's not that big.
Bascially, he's going nowhere.
Sam Peter sucks. One of the worst so-called "prospects" I've ever seen.
The1God 11-10-2004, 11:47 AM Ya never know, he could be the next Butterbean!!!
Great 11-10-2004, 12:39 PM Morales will be next big heavyweight, if will rise else on some weight classes.
:)
I thought you guys might be talking about Valuev. (sp?)
I never heard of this guy..but noticed that Rob Calloway fought him to a draw. Fairly sad.
I have seen Sam Peter a couple of times and he has great power but I don't know what too make of him. He has too step it up before I get even remotely excited. He is fighting on the undercard of Jose Luis Castillo/Casamayor. It is the third bout and as far as I know Showtime is not televising it. He's fighting Jeremy Williams which could be real exciting, if I was Showtime I would certainly televise this fight, if Peter is who some say he is(raw version of Ike) than he needs more exsposure, besides that fight should end in KO either way.
jabsRstiff 11-10-2004, 03:11 PM Even Peter's punch is overrated.
His shots are heavy, but he's got zero snap.
His punch will be less & less effective as he steps up in class.
jabsRstiff 11-10-2004, 03:12 PM The ONLY reason he's a version of Ike, is because he's Nigerian.
there are no other similarities.
I am definately not disagreeing with you, I look forward to him stepping it up-unfortunately Jeremy Williams is not it. But if Williams ko's/exsposes Peter then we can just right him off immediately-I am not quite yet ready to do that.
Mr. Untouchable 11-10-2004, 03:38 PM I have seen Peter fight a couple of times and he is definately heavy handed but in his last fight he went right hand crazy, he really doesn't have any punch variation and looks to tire easily and really telegraphs his overhand rights after that. I'm not a klicthco fan (don't know how to spell the name right), but I think he would bust Peter up. Peter reminds me a little of sonny liston...
tntkid 11-10-2004, 11:23 PM Ya never know, he could be the next Butterbean!!!
I think one is enough as it is!
ChrististheAnswer 11-10-2004, 11:29 PM It will really be interesting to see how Peter will handle Williams in his next fight. I think that Peter has to really make a statement in this one because he didn't look all that great in last fight versus Pudar.
However the upside to Sam Peter is that he is only 24 years old and seems to be improving with each bout. I'm anxiously awaiting his next fight, this is no guranteed victory for Peter, Williams is more than a "live" opponent.
