View Full Version : If it were boxing, this mma fight would've been considered FOTY.

Pretty good. Their form is terrible though. It looks like two Mayorga's in the same ring with less power.

U think the casual fan cares about form? They just want to see a fight. What do u think what help bring more viewers to boxing. A fight like the one shown above, or Bhop vs Winky? Toe to toe slugfest will always be remembered in boxing, and are the type of fights that are always considered for FOTY. U will never see a technical/defensive boxing match considered for FOTY. Those are just facts.
mrpain81 12-29-2008, 02:26 PM I don't get if you want to talk about MMA you come to a Boxing forum....
We get it you love MMA, post this **** in the MMA forum.

well no **** a technical defensive fight will never be fight of the year, neither are the technical boring rolling on the floor fights that occur so often in MMA FOTY.
I don't understand why this is in the boxing forum, this should be MMA. We already have our back and forth action fights (with actual boxing skills at that!).
TheGreatA 12-29-2008, 02:27 PM I've seen better, more thrilling boxing fights this year. Mgatwa - Villa didn't have any technique involved and I thought it was better.

yep. Take it elsewhere

You must have missed Vazquez/Marquez and Margarito/Cotto. Those are only highlights, I saw that fight, it was good, but no Vazquez Marquez.

I also saw the fight live when it happened.
It was good but Silva lacked killer instinct when he had Liddell hurt (something he certainly didn't lack in his prime) while Liddell was just looking to win a decision, using takedowns to safely win the third round.
deevel79 12-29-2008, 02:31 PM Stop being such insecure little *****'s. Im just trying to point out that a fight like this in boxing would be something that would put boxing on the map with casual fans. Casual fans care only about entertainment. They can give to flying fuks about watching someone play defense all night, or watching someone jab thier way to a 12 round decision.

No way did i miss those fights. Too bad there arent more like them! Boxing would be a much more popular sport if there were more fighters like them!
tredh 12-29-2008, 02:33 PM That **** was terrible. I will never understand why people pay to watch that unskilled ****. People can go to whereever there are a lot of bars at in they city and watch drunk people do that **** for free. They looked like to drunk guys fighting over a drunk ***** at a bar or club.

what the hell are you talking about? Ur acting like boxing never has slugfests, we do all the damn time. Of course there are plenty of boring fights but that's how the sport is, JUST like MMA (they have plenty of boring ass fights too!). **** and normally we can tell, like Winky vs Bhop that you pointed out to (last year) everyone and their momma knew it was going to be an ugly fight. If you want to see a slug fest DON"T WATCH winky vs bhop or Wlad Klitschko vs anyone, you watch fighters that brawl. Simple.

We're not, but honestly, there were fights this year that provided that type of action, or more, excitement, and even knockouts. Nobody is being defensive either, that was a good fight and I'm sure the casual fight loved it, but boxing doesn't need a fight like that, it had better, now if the casual fan is not watching, that's a whole other issu.

I don't disagree with you, I would enjoy watching. I'm just saying the skill leveled involved with what they're doing is very low. Whereas with Hagler-Hearns there is plenty of skill and brutality.

you just made this thread so you could talk about mma
there have been some good exciting fights this year in boxing
If you wanna post about mma go to that section of the site
This has little to do with boxing, just you wanting to talk about mma in the boxing section of the site

Here's another fact. Ultimate Floor Cuddling is gay.

Arreola Walker was similar, where were the casual fans on that one?

whole statement is true... although i do like watching fighters that have form, slugfests are exciting as hell to watch
when you put 2 technical fighters together such as Winky and B-Hop unfortunately you often get "boring" fights to the typical fan
It's great to see boxing fans who have no idea about MMA striking styles come in and try to say their technique is incorrect.
Chuck Liddell has 13 KO's or TKO's out of his 21 wins. Wand has 23 TKO's out of his 32 wins. They're obviously doing something right.
Are they perfect? No.
But do they get the job done? Yes.

So are you saying some MMA striking styles are about throwing wide looping punches that get you off balance and out of position?

Yes.
Sometimes being odd works. And by sometimes, I mean most of the time.
FreshPrince 12-30-2008, 04:12 AM Haha, I love the helicopter punch/***** slap Liddell does. I'd be rolling on the floor if Vitali does that to Haye.

i bearly seen that couple days ago
i was goin nuts
lol
i mean man
silva is the man
he went out on his shield
he set his mind to sluggin out with punches
no kicks no subbmissions
looked like he said to himself
ima beat chuck at his own game or go down tryin
even chuck couldnt handle it
he had to try kicks
take downs
to me i think silva took pride in that

...
A spinning back fist? That's hardly considered a "***** slap".
YUHHHHHHH! 12-30-2008, 02:04 PM If Chuck Liddell landed that flush on Vitali or Haye, both of their glass jaws would shatter.
More importantly than the kind of punches being thrown:
MMA Fighter's Chin >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Boxer's Chin.
xfiles 12-30-2008, 09:46 PM Spinning backfist? :ugh:
DaneNoodles 12-30-2008, 10:13 PM fun to watch... but eh
Snooty 12-31-2008, 08:03 AM Wanderlei is past it.
UFC rules hurt him badly.
