So to summarize, both the Library of Congress and the American Film Institute NEVER had the 1922 Tunney - Greb Boxing Match. They only DOCUMENTED THAT IT ONCE EXISTED. As for the Tiger Flowers film that had footage of Greb in it, THE FILM WAS DESTROYED BECAUSE IT WASN'T SALVAGEABLE. Maybe someone out there has a copy of one of these films, but the Library of Congress AND the American Film Institute don't.
Footage of Greb training for Mickey Walker:

Thank you very much the training footage is amazing. Its an absolute tragedy that the fight is now lost although i have been hearing a lot about Hank Kaplan having some sort of footage of the fight so i guess i will just keep searching. Thanks again.

Wow!! I didn't know Hank Kaplan lived in Kendall, FL, I knew he lived in South Florida (I briefly met him in 2000 I think it was), but didn't know he lived so close.
In any case, imo Harry Greb may very well be the greatest fighter of all time when you consider him being able to accomplish so much while being blind in one eye and partially blind in the other. I am really hoping that there is another copy of the Dick Tiger/Greb fight. I wish they had done a much better job of preserving these fights, now we'll never get to see many of them, unless of course it is sitting around in someone's basement.

WOW you met hank nice! Harry greb is certainly one of the best of all time he accomplished some amazing feats. However Tiger flowers Did beat him twice at middleweight and both times for the middleweight crown so we have to put tiger up there as well.

Flowers did "officially" beat him twice, that is true, but both fights weren't without their controversies* and most accounts of the fights express the opinions that Greb was well past it by that point in his career.
Flowers deserves some credit, but not enough to put him "up there", though, in my opinion.
*I've got six accounts from the NY papers from the day after their first fight, and the opinions were split at three apiece on who they thought should have won.

Yes i have heard many story's regarding the fight both in Tiger's favor and in Greb's favor. Lets not forget at this point in history racism was still an every second thing and even the papers expressed this, im not saying this is the only reason Greb was given the nod etc but, im 100% sure that some peoples accounts would be based on this. Of all the clippings i have read it seems as though greb found it difficult facing tigers southpaw and very slick style which makes me think of Tiger as a Pernell Whitaker :notworthy:notworthy lol. Like i have said its an absolute catastrophe that we will never get to see anything of tiger flowers, or even the three battles he had with Harry or even his attempt at beating Sam langford! which did go horribly wrong:blackeye:
