View Full Version : People just don't get it

Stay with me on this one. I'm messed up on cold pills so I might wander a little.

Ok it's obvious that most of us here spend a lot of time on the computer. My question is what's the difference between sitting on here or sitting on the couch watching tv?

I just had a big discussion with a friend about this last night.
We were talking about what we would be doing today and he gave me the usual line from a typical 30 something guy in my peer group."Going to get a 12 pack and watch the football game"
I told him I was going to do some stuff here (on Global) and send out some emails for follow ups and order some parts for a customer.

He starts laughing and telling me how it's not normal to spend that much time on a computer. That I should do something else.
I asked him what the difference is between sitting on the couch looking at a CRT or me sitting in a chair looking at one.(this was followed by a quick explanation of what a Cathode Ray Tube is)

"It just is" or "at least I talk to real people" and "it can't be good for you"(this is when I offer to do a body fat measurement and go for a jog)

Anyway anyone else get this **** from people? Is sitting on the computer the same as watching tv or any other media format?

I think our time here is more productive. I mean, we have all made a lot of friends here and a bunch of us actually got together and hung out

I mean, what are the odds of him just chilling with a bunch of football players

I think it has to do with being on the computer as much as watching tv hasn't become the normal for some people. Or it's too technologically advanced for them and they can't type. ;)

Yeah, I get that **** from my friends pretty often. I'm rarely on the cpu after I get home from work, but I do use AIM fairly often when I'm home. It doesn't bother me because we all make fun of each other about soemthing, and that's about the only thing they think they have on me.

computerland is great. i get that **** all the time. i'm not here on Global all the time, but i might be sending out emails in regards to the site, burnin a cd, ****in around reading news on different sites. i mean the normal tv shows suck and the good stuff, like good movies and news...... only comes on the telli later in the night. my friends will be like "dude.... get off of the ****ing computer..... thats not normal". all i'm doin is sendin some ****in emails and maybe watchin some fights on the pc and they get all *****ed up. funny ****. half of them dont know how to type and the others do the same **** (ie. play with cell phones for 3 hours- like women).

as of the last few months i dont get on the pc much unless i'm at work and gave up on aim way back when, so if anything, i am being a little bit more productive on the net than i was before.

or not. either way, i rule.
