Christmas Theft and Corruption:dead1:
It's the time of year when Pinoys living overseas have to realize that they cannot send Christmas gifts back to the Philippines for some obvious reasons.
Firstly, anything of value in a parcel will be stolen at the Post Office.
Secondly if it is not stolen, corrupt customs officials will contact the receiver and explain that they must pay an inflated amount of customs duty OR they can just pay a "fee" to the customs officer.
From my personal experience, I import goods into the Philippines and because of the corruption I 'employ' three corrupt customs officials to bring my goods into the Philippines by paying each of them a fee, but of course at this time of year these crocodiles get greedy and demand more. So who do you report this criminality to?
The Police. No they're corrupt too. The Divisional Head of Customs. No he is one of those who I pay, The NBI..which one is not corrupt? The Government? The question is how much legitimate customs duty is being collected by Philippines Customs and of that legitimate amount how much actually is spent to benefit Pinoys?
So what can be done about it? Absolutely nothing! If anyone makes too much noise about such things, they will simply 'disappear'. Are the Philippines News Services going to report such goings on.of course not. It's Not News!
