Who would you say are the 5 greatest 140 lbers ever? Where does Kostya Tszyu rank in light of his recent win?

My 5

1-Julio Cesar Chavez
2-Barney Ross
3-Kostya Tszyu
4-Aaron Pryor
5- Billy Petrolle

Should Tszyu even be on the list of top 5?

Damn Kara, you are one hot piece of a$$

Getting back to the subject. Tszyu should not be considered an all-time great at 140 pounds, at least not at this point.

Why shouldn't Tszyu be an all time great 140 lber?

What else is missing? He has beaten the best fighters in his division.

Tszyu is one of the best. Just not too sure if we can rate
him the best ever given the deep talent of the past.

JCC then Kostya Tszyu. JCC had an iron chin and Tszyu has the offense.

Oscar had only two or three fights at 140 if I remember right so I don't think he could rank that high all time at 140. Tszyu definitely should be ranked in the top 10 or 15 all-time at 140.

Tszyu shouldnt be ranked as one of the greats, hes good but not great, he needs to impress me by beating Mayweather and Gatti. Plus he lacks mobility

Neither Whitaker nor DLH spent any significant time at 140, so I don't think you could call them all-time greats at this weight.

JCC, Pryor were the best I've ever seen at 140. Tszyu is very good, but I can't put him in that class yet, at least from what I've seen...

No love for Antonio Cervantes in this thread?

In my opinion, along with Aaron Pryor and Barney Ross, he ranks as one of the top 3 fighters to ever fight at this weight.

Absolutely. No question. His main fault (if you would consider it one) is that he has never moved up. But the question was greatest 140lber......he is one of the top five, easily.

I would say

Pryor
JCC
KT in the top three. It could be argued, but its my opinion.

Tszyu shouldn't be ranked as one of the greats, hes good but not great, he needs to impress me by beating Mayweather and Gatti. Plus he lacks mobility Obviously you've never seen Kostya in his 20's the guy was like a mini Mike Tyson just bustin' people up, yeah he has slowed down a bit , but back then he could cut off the ring w/ the best of 'em, that's why I think De La Hoya ducked his ass, and chose to go after war-torn former greats such as Chavez and Whitaker. I might as well say the same thing for Shane Mosley, but hey boxing is a business and Mosley wanted the biggest fish in De La Hoya . I would've favored Mosley and De La Hoya over Kostya back then, however I think it would've been just a mild upset I think, if both or one of the two were beaten by the 140lb. BLOCK OF GRANITE in Tszyu.

I am not sure that I could rate Tszyu over some of the great 140 pounders of the past, although he has to be among the top. What wonderful fantasy matchups he would make with them though. Imagine JC Chavez versus Tszyu. Or versus Sweet Pea ... although I am not sure that Tszyu's streak against the southpaws that he has faced would hold up against Pernell (for myself, I have never witnessed a more talented defensive fighter ever). Tszyu versus Pryor? OMG! :D
