I want you to judge this at the time the systems were released, for me interims of graphics gameplay and game selection, Snes takes the number 1 spot.

Playstation 1 was the ****.. Had the best RPG's hands down.

Yes it had the best rpg games ever finally fantasy 7 and legend of the dragoon are some of my favorites, but overall for the times I still think snes is the best ever.

SNES by far. No other system had as many hits, as many cult favs than SNES. I loved/love my PSX and my Sega Genesis but SNES ruled the gaming world when it came out. All you gotta know is this, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, that's all.

Hell yeah. That's my all time favorite game along with mariokart. SNES was the last system I bought and the best ever.

snes. ps 1 was a no brainer to buy as well - some of my happiest memories were playing iss pro evo for days as a student, plus the final fantasy series and wipeout 2097

Funny no one has mentioned an of the 5th generation systems (Wii, PS3, 360) because they are all about graphics and frills, they don't have the imagination or gameplay of the earlier systems.

BTW I place the PS2 over the PSX because you can play all the PSX games on the PS2.

Same, plus you get what? 1,000+ other titles to play? With the God of War games, Metal Gear 2 and 3, the Resident Evil series, and the million other stellar PS2 titles.

PS2. Offered great hardware reliability (my ps2 which was bought about 6 months after launch only died about 2 months before the ps3 launched). Had tremendous model life, you didn't have to rebuy new hardware or game library for many many years if you kept stuff in good shape.

Also had about a gagillion games available.
