View Full Version : Has boxing helped you become a better person in general?
mishka80 12-15-2008, 10:33 AM In terms of personality and lifestyle, do you find yourself to be more confident? do some of you limit the amount of time you spend partying (To stay in shape for boxing?) or do you guys try to find a balance for every aspect in life? Or do you find yourself staying away from those things and just train for boxing nonstop.
Just curious. For me, personally, I used to drink and smoke often but I realized that I was spending too much $$ and I was worried bout my heatlh. I still party but not as much. Do you guys think it's a good idea to keep an even balance?
Chr0nic 12-15-2008, 12:33 PM i dunno, i sure like to hit people alot more, more than i did i mean, i always liked punching hmm
Napalm Death 12-15-2008, 12:36 PM i dunno, i sure like to hit people alot more, more than i did i mean, i always liked punching hmm
yeah me too.
i sparked some lad the other day with 2 hits when normally it would take a good 5 or 6 punches.
Landon S 12-15-2008, 12:41 PM Yeah definately. I can put up with ****y dickheads alot better than I used too, I usually just laugh at them and that tends to piss them off. I used to get into fights over stupid **** but now thats different. Basically I have alot more respect for people in general.
I find I want to help people more with stuff. Im alot nicer.
Im alot more disciplined in everything and Im looking to my future alot more as well. Taking steps towards what I want.
I quit smoking to box so thats one really good thing.
Boxing helped my life alot, it seems to have givin me focus where as before I was just blowing in the wind with no direction.
Chr0nic 12-15-2008, 12:47 PM oh, and i can't find myself to hit people full force on the head anymore(unless it's in the ring)
i read alot of **** about people dieing from blows to the head, and i've always packed quite a punch
i end street fights with body blows now
Squabbles94806 12-15-2008, 01:10 PM Martial arts has, not boxing.
Boxing turned me more aggressive.
But i have to balance it out with my martial arts/karate
moin126 12-15-2008, 04:05 PM it has made me ****y arrogant flamboyant, i constantly quote mayweather, and talk about how a hocky bag is the new thing, and how the sjieks are killing like tons of israelies, that affects us?
I also constantly remind myself to wear white tshirts when in the club, just for that mayweather vibe. I also say things like '' like i told you before'' your a ***** im the topdog.. I trash talk vs my exams, i trash talk during studying about how my math exam has six losses, and im gonna show this fker the 7th way to beat arturo gatti. I mean like hes a paper champion.
Squabbles94806 12-15-2008, 04:23 PM I've noticed i want to fight more. Inside and outside of the ring.
Before i'd want to try and settle thing peacefully. Now, i'd rather sock someone in the face. i don't want to catch a case though, so i try to keep my impluses at bay.
These days it's about as pointless to debate someone as it is to sock someone in the face. So i'd rather sock somebody in the face. At least that's the way i see it.
peewee1460 12-15-2008, 04:43 PM boxing has just made everything outside the ring uninteresting to me. aside from driving i just don't really care what's going on. it seems like my thoughts always end up wandering to boxing. it's kind of distanced me from the rest of the world.
Boxer1590 12-15-2008, 09:01 PM Boxing did wonders for me. I used to get in all kinds of fights and all kinds of trouble. I owe a lot to my old trainer who took me in for a while and really helped me turn my life around.
Now I go to college full time, work about 30-40 hours a week, and box 5 days a week. I dont really have time for much. I just hang around with my girlfriend and watch movies lol. I like to go the the club and dance maybe once a month but I dont drink or nothing when im there(im too young anyway). I just like dancing....if only I was good at it lol.
ScottDBA 12-15-2008, 09:09 PM I don't know if boxing has made me a better person, but it has made my life dramatically better.
I suffered from badly anxiety/depression for several years off and on. I'd feel a bit better, but my life was still ****, and I'd eventually fall back into it after a couple months. I started boxing and that gave me something that I loved to do and something to look forward too. Six months later and I'm feeling great.
Life's not perfect by any means, and I've still got a ways to go, but if I've made a lot of progress in life since I started boxing.
sweet*science 12-15-2008, 11:22 PM I quit smoking to box as well. Over a year ago now. After my first day in the gym and i felt like my lungs shrunk I figured i needed to stop smoking. I dont party at all now really, and hardly drink. Im more serious about boxing now so thats a commitment i was willing to make.
TheTruthIs 12-15-2008, 11:23 PM Instead of being arrested for punching people in the face...something I rather like to do, we get cheered, praised, rewarded and applauded for it. That ain't 1/2 a bad deal right there.
And there is a peaceful feeling in knowing you can wipe out most anyone you come into contact with. It also helps being respected.
Ultimately, the touchy feely answers on here...regarding "empowerment" and "being a better person" are true. If you grew up in a tough way or place, it should and often does help your self esteem. And so with respect for self, it is easier to have respect for others.
sugarshanenas 12-15-2008, 11:38 PM I don't smoke anymore
Only thing I don't like is I don't got as much time for friends
Equilibrium 12-16-2008, 01:39 AM I used to get into fights all the time in highschool until i got into boxing, i still got into a few fights after that bu nowhere near as much. I was a really aggresive guy it didn't take me much to take a swing at somebody. I was heavy into drugs, mostly a pothead but i did my share of chems too.
I still have a bad temper but i can control myself now. Boxing really did help me to "tame the beast inside".
Now i don't drink, don't smoke and i am pretty calm all around. But of course all that didn't happen within a few days of picking up boxing. Started boxing about 8 years ago and in the first few years i was still into drugs somewhat.
But yeah, overall it made me a better person i beleive.
phallus 12-16-2008, 03:09 AM it gave me a place to use my aggression, and training keeps me out of trouble
JulioCesaChavez 12-16-2008, 04:15 PM I think it has helped me alot. Without boxing I would have nowhere to channel all that rage and would probably beat up alot more people for no reason. i think I would abuse drink and drugs alot more too, and may have even become a full time criminal with a record. I have only been arrested a few times for a few fights, and once for forgery when I was younger. Boxing stopped me going down that route because I would have thought differently after getting my final warning if I was not teetotal. Also, boxing defo stopped me from selling weed because I knew if I had access to it everyday I would smoke it!

LMAO Moron. You a better person?
You're revolting, inside and out.
Oriachim 12-16-2008, 05:00 PM Boxing has made me confident but in the wrong ways, I'm more punchy than before.
Way better...im more confident, street fighting seems pointless, i look great naked i have reasons not to drink as much and why never to smoke
keepthemhandsup 12-16-2008, 07:52 PM i'm less stressed when i think about boxing

your a loser, do you ever think before you type.
your suck a hard ass hahahahahahahaha
KostyaTszyu44 12-17-2008, 01:29 AM not really, i still get into the odd scuffle or punchup lol
I'd say boxing has had a positive impact on my life. I was already a pretty good student before I started boxing and I never party/smoke/drink, boxing aside. But for a while now, on and off, I have been depressed. But boxing gives me something to look forward to and keep me motivated. If I am ever feeling down, I just think about my next boxing practice or my next sparring session and I feel a little bit better. Plus a lot of times when I feel like giving up, like on a test or something, I sit back and think, what would I do if this was a boxing ring? I wouldn't want to quit in the ring so why am I going to quit on this exam, and I start studying/working harder.

You are a homosexual. Boxing will stop you gays like you from spreading AIDS by coughing, as you cannot have that when you go for a medical. Bring boxing back into schools!

Tysonisgod 12-18-2008, 09:14 PM Bring boxing back into schools!
They are bringing it back into secondary schools in England, just incase your interested about that.
I dont think boxing has made me a better person, all a wanna do is watch boxing or train, most of my life is spent training, thinking about training, gettin ready to train or watchin boxing, i STUDY boxing like an old pro, ive got thousands of fights on tape and dvd and on the pc. I train 6 days a week, see my gf every nite cos she stays with me. See my little boy 3nites, Mon wed and friday, same days as boxing so a need to give up spendin alot of time with him( he's only 1) so i can go get the time in at boxing, then when a come home a play about with him, hes already punchin :D got a great little right hand lol
But back to the point, no a think boxing has took over my world, its every second i'm not at college or at work i'm doin somethin to do with boxin, its rather sad, but hey....Its a way of life in my eyes

You come across as a homo mate. it makes plenty of sense, but you were offended as an AIDS spreading disgusting homosexual cunt. I couldn't care less about political correctness like your gay self! Someone who can't spell retarded properly probably is retarded!

How can that be sad? Better than being a cunting chav or loser/wanker with nothing better to do than happyslap an old woman. Wtf do other people get up to that is so good anyway? Go out for meals and get fat? Lol. I enjoy boxing very much and splitting you spare time between boxing and fanny(temp or perm, it is all good) sounds just about right mate. You got your life sussed!
MR UNBEATABLE 12-19-2008, 09:41 AM Boxing is a sport that has changed a lot of peoples lifes from getting in to trouble to becoming world champions. Boxing has teached me a lot about myself.
I have become a calmer person when out of the gym and I respect people more than I use to and would start fighting for no reason in the past. It has given me discipline.
Boxing is a very intense combat sport to train for because it requires a lot of heart, determination, commitment, hunger, willpower, consistency, mental focus etc
I have realised that alcohol is counter productive so I have cut down on it and have same amount at parties etc
Just in general it has made me a better person because I appreciate more the things around me than in the past where I would take advantage of them
I believe that you should do what you do best

From reading a few off your post i can tell you seriously are a piece off **** scum bag. Your revolting.
