Frodo wakes up to hear him singing the song of Luthien the elf who gave up her immortailty for the love of a human man. Her story is great and she helped contribute to the fall of Sauron when he took the form of a massive Wolf.

actually, not true. There was only one book when it was originally written, they just broke it down into three books because there are a whole lot of ******* out there that are intimidated by a three thousand page book. *******

Star Wars is awesome, but I'm still going with LOTR. Nothing will ever beat it. Tickets went on sale like a month or so ago here. I didn't purchase any, so I will be waiting to go and see it.

I have not seen any of the LOTR movies.

Peter Jackson has also expressed interest in doing a "Hobbit" movie.

I've seen the first one. I sat to watch the second one with a girlfriend like at one in the morning, and I fell asleep by 1:09.

I was really tired.

Wow. I cannot believe you fell asleep. I still need to purchase Two Towers on DVD.
I think I'll kick back and watch them this week.

I don't even think I got past the credits actually. I don't even remember. It wasn't because of lack of interest in the movie that I fell asleep, I was just seriously tired.

The first three star wars were okay, and I think they did a ****ing good job for the time in which they were made, but the only thing I liked about the last ones they have come out with are that chick's hairdos. There are a lot of reasons why I haven't liked the last two to come out.

Great experience. Awesome theatre. Got in for free. Got a coke, pizza, popcorn and licorice for free. The movie was excellent. I recommend that every1 go see it.

I'd have to disagree.... a lot of the popularity of these movies (LOTR and Star Wars) really comes from the fan base they had to begin with, because of the books. The movies are like a beginning to the end, really. It's like the ultimate ride for the people who fell in love with these books when they read them, to actually be put in the storyline.

that shouldnt take anything away from the trilogy or the movies. There has been movies based off novels of reknown for years that suck.

Frank Herbert's Dune - is the science fiction version of LotR. they have taken ideas from this book and made movies*but the fan base didnt help this movie and it was regarded as one of the most terrible.

*Terminator (the thinking machine crusade against humans), Star Wars (lotsof ideas from the Jedi powers to straight up Jubba the Hut)

Stephen King has had classic bestsellers but has yet to make a "timeless" movie.

Edgar Allen Poe, H.P. Lovecraft, Charles Dickens,etc.. have all had classic stories turned to mediocre at best in cinema. Peter Jackson just did an excellant job. He was given 300 million dollars to make that trilogy and that is what Lucas practically spent to make that ****ty Episode One: Phantom menace.

If those movies were given to say.... Director Joel Shumacher or even Steven Spielberg, the trilogy could have been a disaster.

Before the fellowship came out, the critics were already skeptical about it being any good. ( considering director peter jackson is the man responsible for the bloodiest movie ever made.)
He was given a budget of 300million to make all 3 films.
( it cost 150 million to make gladiator alone )
so as it turns out, a bloody slasher director is given a not so strong budget and did amazing things with it.

i'll go see this flick, but not for a few weeks till the hype dies down. Just about 10 bucks is way too much to pay to expereience the following:

- Overcrowded theater
- Strangers all around you
- That one annoying person who can't figure out how to open his sour patch kids so you hear the bag crinkling for 20 minutes
- Some punk with his pager or cell phone ringing, then actually answering it and talking, like hes so important
- Some usher telling me to put my foot down
- Person Behind me playing soccer with the back of my chair
- Someones kid walking up and down the row behind me, never failing to bump into my head at one point or another
- Jackasses talking amongst themselves, but at a volume that everyone in attendence can hear
- The one idiot who thinks its amusing to throw skittles (ok maybe that IS actually amusing)
- People who find it necessary to clap for good scenes make me ill
- That one person who always has to laugh longer, louder, and more often than everyone else.
- That one person who always figures out whats going to happen and announces it beforehand.

I Think that covers the basics on why i hate new movies in theaters.

I saw the last LOTR on a sunday at 2pm, a few weeks after release, and there were 3 people in the entire theater and i only had to pay like 6 bucks for the matinee.... bliss.

I wasn't saying that the movies were bad, I liked LOTR (The first one anyway, since that's the only one I saw) I was just saying that a lot of people's willingness to sit through a three hour movie is because they've read the books, and it makes it that much more cool to watch.

I saw it and liekd it a lot. The only thing that sucked was the 18 endings.

i was disappointed in return of the kings. it didn't answer a lot of questions and almost put me to sleep at some points.

they cut out alot of the storyline to make time. I know which parts you mean. the director didnt want to cut them but he decieded that 4 hours is too long to sit.

The movie was pretty good. The action sequences were nicely done.

What I didn't like is that f'ing Rudy was crying in every f'ing scene. The ending sequence was far too long, the crowd in the theatre was getting restless, myself included...
