View Full Version : funniest things newbies do/say in your boxing gym
nirojsri 12-11-2008, 05:44 PM What is the funniest thing you've seen or heard from a newbie in your gym.
Mine is some guy coming in saying he will be pro in 2 years and how he'll knocke everyone out. But he couldn't even do 5 laps around the gym while everyone else was doing 30. They were newbies too.
peewee1460 12-11-2008, 05:57 PM i try not to laugh at someone's simple lack of knowledge and no one like that shows up while i'm training. but it does put a smile on my face to see someone who clearly has no idea what they're doing just banging away on the bag. :D
Landon S 12-11-2008, 05:58 PM I think its funny when they try to **** up the heavybag and look around to see if anybody is watching and try to look mean & scary.
Or when they argue with you about technique, as soon as they argue I just ignore them until they can spar. After that theyre alot more open to instruction lol. FYI I dont just run around giving tips, once in a while coach tells me to teach the new guy the basics. Pretty much every second newb lol

this. haaa. It really is funny watching someone go ape**** on a bag and be rather proud of themselves for it.
d_lyrik803 12-11-2008, 09:54 PM most of the time i really don't care what ppl say or do but there is one guy that kinda annoys me. he says hes training hard to fight yet doesnt show up to the gym, then you can tell he really doesn't even keep in shape out the gym because hes struggling during training......
sukhenkoy 12-11-2008, 10:57 PM One day a new kid shows up in my gym and the coach makes him start doing a warmup circuit. After doing 100 jumping jacks, the new kid proceeds to doing running in place and suddenly stops. The trainer comes up to him to see what is wrong.
"Why did you stop?"
"I'm getting a cramp."
"You need to eat more bananas"
"I do, coach"
"How many?"
"I usually have a banana split or two everyday"
No further questions for that kid.

:lol1: no way that happened
robjr 12-11-2008, 11:19 PM Umm the ones who think there good and go ape $h!t on the bag with horrible form kinda crack me up.
But the only thing about the noobs that bugs me is when they take it to personal when the get tagged in sparring and they they get wild and literally tryin to hurt you. thats when I usually drop them with a body shot
sukhenkoy 12-11-2008, 11:24 PM :lol1: no way that happened
No joke man. I almost shat myself from laughter when I heard that.

:lol1: what the trainer say
sukhenkoy 12-12-2008, 12:01 AM :lol1: what the trainer say
Trainer was just like, "I said BANANAS, boy!". The kid just got real scared, and stopped training. I never saw him in the gym after that though. Funny kid must be said.

FIGHTING_FLIP 12-12-2008, 12:22 AM when a new dude goes all out on the bag for 20 seconds and then stands and looks at the bag for the rest of the round.
d_lyrik803 12-12-2008, 12:26 AM one thing that annoyed the **** outta me was the fact that this kid went from wearing 14 oz gloves to 8 oz... wtf? to hit the bag too.....
Smokin'J 12-12-2008, 12:58 AM when sparring he goes all out for 10 seconds(throwing wild ****ed up flurries gets tired) then suddenly says lets quit, i mean what teh ****?
BOLLOCKS 12-12-2008, 01:00 AM when sparring he goes all out for 10 seconds(throwing wild ****ed up flurries gets tired) then suddenly says lets quit, i mean what teh ****?

Landon S 12-12-2008, 03:16 AM And that's when you knock him the fuc.k out right ? :D
then genryu tells him he should be brushing his teeth more.
Sorry, couldn't resist
 I have a habit of screaming Ricky Hatton style when I'm doing mitts (only when I start to get tired though..) and subconsiously I think about not doing it but then as soon as I concentrate back on hitting the mitts I start back up! Hahahaha.. I feel hella stupid and bad for people who have to listen to me but for some reason when I'm hella tired, it makes me feel like I can exhert more force and resist from quitting if I .. yell? scream? Whatever.
And yes, I've been boxing for years. Not a newbie but you'd expect a new kid to try and attract attention this way so I decided to post it!

Squabbles94806 12-12-2008, 11:36 AM Why do people who start boxing, who've never had fighting experience, think they can go pro? I mean anyone can go pro, but chances are you'll get your ass whooped if you don't know what you're doing.
I want to go pro, but i still have a lot to learn. I'll get there. It just takes time and hard work.
JoHnNyBoXeR 12-12-2008, 05:38 PM when guys come in with the everlast gloves and headgear you get from modells lol
MayweatherJones 12-12-2008, 07:04 PM Haha good laugh guys, keep posting.

Of course everyone wants to be a pro...but nobody wants to put in the effort or dedication....which is why most people fail.
Danny Gunz 12-12-2008, 09:13 PM when guys come in with the everlast gloves and headgear you get from modells lol
gloves are gloves i dont get how thats so crazy
ScottDBA 12-12-2008, 09:34 PM when guys come in with the everlast gloves and headgear you get from modells lol
What's so bad about that? Sure the cheap everlast stuff isn't very good, but how is a new guy supposed to know that?
 I have a habit of screaming Ricky Hatton style when I'm doing mitts (only when I start to get tired though..) and subconsiously I think about not doing it but then as soon as I concentrate back on hitting the mitts I start back up! Nothing wrong with that. It gets more air out of your lungs/gets the air out faster. Don't worry about what other people will think and try doing it all the time, not just when you are tired. You won't get tired as quickly.
mishka80 12-12-2008, 09:36 PM when guys come in with the everlast gloves and headgear you get from modells lol
???? not everyone can afford expensive equipment.... how is this even funny?
JoHnNyBoXeR 12-12-2008, 09:38 PM gloves are gloves i dont get how thats so crazy
no gloves aren't just gloves.. if you go to a real gym how many guys you see with the modells gear?
JoHnNyBoXeR 12-12-2008, 09:40 PM gloves are gloves i dont get how thats so crazy

I don't. lol...but other people who just box for fun...may not have Winning gloves or Grants.
Just sayin' brah. Way to judge us when you don't even know us.
Danny Gunz 12-12-2008, 10:00 PM no gloves aren't just gloves.. if you go to a real gym how many guys you see with the modells gear?
ive seen bernard hopkins wear them on the bag before... you must be delusional if you think diff. gloves give u a better chance
JoHnNyBoXeR 12-12-2008, 10:05 PM ive seen bernard hopkins wear them on the bag before... you must be delusional if you think diff. gloves give u a better chance
the gloves will offer much better protection for your hand and a better punch
sukhenkoy 12-12-2008, 11:26 PM If anything, it would be more funny to see a newbie show up to the gym his first day wearing 100 dollar gloves. If you ask me, I have respect for people regardless of what gloves they wear. Like someone else said, it's ****ed up to laugh at someone when they simply can't afford expensive gloves, but still love the sport.
The gloves don't make the boxer.

i scream 2 lol a few people in my gym do it! but im the loudest :fing02:
Two GG winners, both of whom are projected to go to Vegas this year.. still don't have there own gloves and use the ones the gym provide. I think it's funny that people make fun of people because they can't afford ****.
Most likely, the humble and poor ones will beat the **** out of your ****y ass anyway.

I'm new to boxing, but aren't many pro boxers of humble origins? & isn't/wasn't boxing cosidered a blue collar sport.
Anyhow, some of the **** y'all posted is funny.
KostyaTszyu44 12-13-2008, 07:54 PM when guys come in with the everlast gloves and headgear you get from modells lol
how is that funny?
lots of kids who box dont have much money, hardly any boxers are white collar yuppies like you
Trrmo 12-13-2008, 08:24 PM I couldnt think of anything that was that funny, I think most new guys pretty much feel pretty nervous and try not to make a dick of themselves.
One thing that is amusing is watching them trying to skip for the first time, especially when they do those girly schoolyard type skips and theres a few of them doing it at the same time. or totally warped attempts at hand wrapping, but I will show them tho.
Sadler 12-13-2008, 08:34 PM then genryu tells him he should be brushing his teeth more.

lmao yes mate
Smokin'J 12-13-2008, 08:39 PM Yeah 'cause white teeth can train ya better then training 24/7 at the gym

danm0212 12-14-2008, 06:28 PM I think it's funny when people would tell my coach yeah I love it it's great I'll see you tomorrow then I never see them again.

lol all my friends so proud of me say "HEY I WANNA COME TO THE GYM WITH YOU!" for the first time, so I'm like "yeah why not!"... then nobody turns up apart from me! lol.
Landon S 12-15-2008, 02:57 PM I saw a big bodybuilder lookin guy come to the gym and shadowbox, hed stand sideways to the mirror throw a jab as fast as he could (f-ing slow) and freeze at the end, look in the mirror and check out his triceps lol. He'd flex doing everything. It just slowed him down.
He asked what kind of routine I was doing when I was doing calisthenics and stuff after my regular work and I told him to just join in and find out. Guy could barely do 3 pullups and 25 pushups....he continued flexing his arms between sets looking at them...ugh *face palm*
his clapping pushups were god aweful, barely came 1 inch off the floor. He almost fell on his face a couple times....I couldnt help but let out a little snicker when he did cuz he looked around kinda scared that anybody saw. Guy has the hugest ego/self loving crap I've ever seen.
He keeps coming back though so thats good. He usually joins in whenever Im doing something, I'll make a beast out of him yet!!
