If you could go back in time and tell your younger self some tips, tactics, strategy, drills, etc. about boxing, what would you say?

NOTE: you are not allowed to give your younger self tips about women.

don't try to knock people out cuz it's not as easy as it is on t.v and all it does is make you tired and run out of energy and get hasty and get hurt

well, i am abit of a different case as i practice a martial art which also uses some boxing training methods(my teacher is trained in boxing btw.)

me, i would have skipped karate and kickboxing when i was younger and gone straight onto chinese boxing.

that is about it. i don't really have regrets or things i would change in my training.

just wish i didn't play basketball that day i injured my knee - something that i will always have to live with. and that pisses me off as i cannot compete full contact. at least i can train people i guess.

anyways, this is an interesting topic. i look forward to hearing from some of you other fighters or people trained in fighting arts.

I started out just straight boxing, then switched gyms cause of location and now im kickboxing and plan to go to Thailand in May, I wrestled through highschool so i started doing bjj...stopped and now am getting back into it again..i think eventually i'l end up doing MMA. But theirs a new boxing gym then opened up down the street from my house and my bestfriend got a job teaching there and now their nagging me to come and train there.

yeah...i injured my knee in my first BJJ tournament.. but it's only a small injury which healed up i'd say 70% on it's own.

If I could go back in time, I would tell to myself to stick with boxing...and not give up (but this was not possible since the boxing gym i was training at closed) and this was around 2005-2006..when TUF/UFC was emerging. I then found an MMA gym and really got into BJJ/Muay Thai. I spent 2.5 years training.. and now here I am today, back to boxing at the age of 18 (i turn 18 this saturday).

thailand should be a helluva fun trip man! i would love to see pics!

me, i am more on the traditional chinese boxing tip. the body conditioning varies within the 1000s of arts from china and taiwan, but the conditioning never procedes very rapidly. that is one concern i have about muay thai is that the conditioning, if fast, will damage the nerves of the legs and arms. in chinese boxing boxing, you want to be conditioned, but not at the expense of you body's "listening ability" - which means the ability to feel subtly adjustments in an opponents body even from the slightest contact. it is not the easiest thing to be skilled at.

best of luck bro. take some damn pic for us MA and MMA peeps!!!!

knee injuries are so so bad. only thing worse is an injury of the spine.

my knee will never be completely healed, but that doesn't stop me from sparring at least. i would just hate to take a full power kick to my leg if i was planted on it.

there are some soft exercises which could help you tremendously. i know i have benefited very much by them and swear by them as the best all around form of exercise, balance improvement, and muscle and tendon toning as well as ligament strengthening.

good luck in your training bro!
