View Full Version : what do you do to gather yourself when your about to throw up?
DJ QUIK 12-10-2008, 01:53 PM sometimes when im going hard i get lightheaded and feel like im about to blow chunks man and i gotta go sit down. like when im sprinting or doing intense padwork or something what the hell can i do to avoid it and what is it? also how can i center myself and get through it?
d_lyrik803 12-10-2008, 02:03 PM i mean if your going to blow chunks you better do it over a trash can or sumtin. you dont want to end up cleaning your mess afterwards, and make your trainer mad at you for throwing up on his floor. its understandable if your going to throw up but if you going to just stop sparring, or training, take yourself over the the trash, throw up and then continue.

thats my point i hate the feeling it feels like im about to die i get winded and lose my thoughts how do i gather myself?
Squabbles94806 12-10-2008, 02:06 PM Don't fight it, let that shiit go. Just try not to make a mess. Most of it will be water anyways.
I've thrown up on several occasions. And i hella dry heave when i push myself like that.
Amazingly, i've never passed out or fainted. That's much worse than yakin.
Usually if i throw up, i rinse my mouth with water and get back to it. Of course i tone it down a little, but i don't completely stop. Then pick it right back up when the engine starts reving again.

i wouldn't try, your body knows when it wants to reject something, all its trying to do is make it self get back to equilibrium... so i wouldn't try to fight it.

Landon S 12-10-2008, 04:17 PM Control your breathing, take deeper than normal breaths and focus on breathing with your diaphram (meaning your belly should shoot out). Works for me
I've heard of putting your head between your legs too.
mishka80 12-10-2008, 05:01 PM If you can control it...fine...but if you feel you're on the verge of throwing up... just throw it ALL out until you feel fine...
that's what they have those puke buckets on the corner for....or just do it outside/washroom.
peewee1460 12-10-2008, 06:11 PM if you get seasick, get a job on a boat. that's what i did and now when i get nauseous in the gym i can just plow through it.

Make sure you are not working out intensely right after you eat! Eat carbs and some fruit a minimum 3 hours before your workout. When you eat, all of your blood goes to your stomach to help you digest. When you work out intensely without giving enough time, all the blood is forced out of your stomach very quickly and into the body parts that need it. Your body gets confused and thats why you get light headed and feel like throwing up.
To get over it, you need to keep moving... jog in place, breathe easy. If you need to eat something and you are within your 3 hour minimum, eat something light like a piece of toast or a banana.

I try and empty my stomach before i train, otherwise it won't be plesant.
I think it's the adrenaline.
