http://www.hiphopdx.com/blogs/cthagod/2008/12/08/top-5-dead-or-alive-.html

So I saw on Allhiphop.com different rappers naming their top 5 Dead or Alive. I'm not a rapper but I am a radio personality/cultural critic and the spirit moved me to express my opinion on who I feel the top 5 ever are. These are just my personal picks, when you sitting around with the homies kicking the **** over the holidays, taking shots of patron, passing around some Stupid Dope Purp this topic always makes for great discussion.....

5)Rakim Allah- I don't even understand how Rakim can not be in everyone's top 5. If your over the age of 25 years old and call yourself a hip hop head and don't think "Paid In Full" is one of the greatest musical masterpieces of all time then your about as useless as Young Berg's security. Personally after my prayers in the morning the one song that gets me motivated and gets my energy right for the day is "I Ain't No Joke" any rapper that tells you Rakim wasn't and influence probably isn't even worth downloading........

4)T.I.P.-Clifford Harris is one of the Greatest MC's of all Time. I have been saying it since Urban Legend see I grew up in South Carolina doing everything I wasn't supposed to be doing and T.I.P. came out on I'm Serious speaking to all the little bad ass kids like myself from the south who where cutting up quarterspoons of hard (that's 7 grams where I come from) when I heard this brother spit this line on "I'm Serious" To play me, ba-by, hey he,gone need a track from God featuring Jesus or Jay-Z. I was like this dude is the truth, for all those not convinced do yourself a favor pick up I'm Serious, In The Streets Vol.1,2,and 3, Trap Music, Urban Legend, King, and Paper Trail. You can skip over T.I. vs.T.I.P. except for the track "Tell Them I Said That" and you have to have the Gangsta Grillz Down with the King. Then you might understand what all the hype is about....

3)Nasir Jones-Bloggers can say what they want about Nas. His baby mama's a whore, his wife's a slut, he's not a boss, he's irrelevant, so what none of that takes away the fact that he's one of the G.O.A.T.'s. His last three albums Streets Disciple, Hip Hop is Dead, and Untitiled **** on anything your favorite rapper has ever thought about writing. Thought provoking rhymes, lyrical content has socially redeeming value, all MC's can learn something from Nas and if you think he fell off to quote a MC he Ethered "do you dudes listen to music or do you just skim thru it?"

2) Scarface-Scarface the rapper did more than Scarface the movie to me. Damn right it did honestly I have never even sat down and watched the whole Scarface movie all the way through but I can quote a Scarface lyric in a heartbeat. Scarface is to down south rap what Rakim is to east coast rap the same way brothers like Nas or fruit off of Rakim's tree brothers like TI or fruit off of Scarface's tree. That's why I laugh when people say it's no lyricist or true MC's in the south honestly I get offended when I see people mention the Greatest of all Time and it's no mention of Scarface it's almost like the game has a biased against putting a southern MC in such high regard. Defintion of Emeritus retired or honorably discharged from active professional duty, but retaining the title of one's office or position. What's Scarface's title? One of the Greatest MC's of All Time period....

1)Ghostface Killah-That's right Tony Starks is my favorite MC of all time!!! Who got better wordplay? Name me and MC that can paint a more vivid picture? When it comes to expressing emotions on a record who can bring you into his world better and make you say damn i'm going thru the same ****! On his debut solo album "Ironman" that song "Wildflower" where he talks about a chick who was doing him dirty? I was going thru the same thing he was going thru I should a smacked her but the god said chilllllllll!! If you never heard the record you wouldn't understand. Who drops more classic albums than Ghost? Supreme Clientle, Pretty Toney yeah he shouldn't of did the record with Missy but all greats make mistakes. Can't forget Source Magazine Verse of the Year 97 for the bars he spit on "Impossible" off Wu Tang Forever album. No MC is more prolific than Ghost!!

Honorable mention: Killah Mike and Prodigy of Mobb Deep only from 95 to 99 though. Prodigy used to be in my top 5 but after Murda Music he just kind of fell off. I think he got beat up too many times I mean you can't spit all that tough talk knowing it's someone out there whose listening saying when I whipped his ass he didn't pull out no burner. He stopped believing himself and it showed in his rhymes. Killah Mike it might not be enough of ya'll listening to the big homie to understand why one day he will be in everyone's top 5. Go to youtube and type in his name and I guarantee you will thank me for it later in fact if T.I. signs Killa Mike to Grand Hustle and puts the machine behind him (not the machine that was put behind Big Kuntry either, the machine machine) then those Top 5 Dead or Alive talks for Killah Mike will start ASAP. Cthagod i'm starting them now......
