alza1988 12-07-2008, 04:36 PM That looks good mate .I've added you to my favourites on youtube , it should help me get my technique sorted a bit .
Trrmo 12-07-2008, 04:38 PM That was ok, need some work
Footwork sluggish, kind of plodding and predictable - practice light, dynamic movement to be able to move in and out, side to side when needed - fast.
knuckles not turning over with punches
right hand kept under your nose - should be a bit further back to the side (to defend from hooks)
practice some bodyshots - straights, hooks and uppercuts.
Your head movement is also predictable and looks a bit whack going side to side in a rhythmic fashion (no offence but reminds me a bit of those retards that need to swing back and forth all the time lol)
Correct the above and you will be much better, have you had any fights?
TheCheetah 12-07-2008, 04:48 PM I have had no fights I've just been sparring in the gym. Well the footwork is sluggish no doubt because I'm shadowing on some terrible mats. I just got a ring in my gym so the footwork is on point. I've corrected the knuckles not turning over on the punches thanks for the input!

peewee1460 12-07-2008, 05:00 PM turn your back foot on your right hand, that punch should start in your foot. make sure your hip is pulling your left hook through, twist with it don't make it an arm punch.
Nu Jerzey Devil 12-07-2008, 05:11 PM Too slow on your feet, get onto your toes. Hook has no power you need to move into it. Right hand is too predictable and you need to move into it more for more power. Also that constant head movement can be timed easily.
Not bad though bro.
Oriachim 12-07-2008, 05:24 PM First thing that came to my mind was that you got pretty quick hands...
PunchDrunk 12-07-2008, 06:12 PM You punch with your hands and your arms. Punches should come from your legs and hips.
Oh, and head movement should also originate from your legs and hips.
dfwtx 12-07-2008, 08:54 PM You punch with your hands and your arms. Punches should come from your legs and hips.
Oh, and head movement should also originate from your legs and hips.
This and that head movement should not be independent from your hands, your moving your face away from your guard.
good luck man
Domey 12-08-2008, 12:16 AM Not to bad. Couple things I'll mention.
For starters you look fairly stiff. Loosen up a bit, specially in your legs, bend your knee's and dance and bounce a bit.
You have good head movement, keep at that.
As Punch said, you are throwing arm punches. While it is just shadowboxing, you should try to get yourself to practice as you would in a real fight. Because if you dont, those habbits can build in quick, and it gets hard to retrain yourself out of them. Use your legs and pivot with your punches.
Also, when you punch you are opening your hands. Keep your hands close, as I said, practice good habbits.
When you bring your punches back, you are bringing them back low a bit. Doing this, you are making yourself work more. You throw a punch, bring it back, then have to raise it again. Secondly you are open for counters.
When you hook, you need to bring your elbow up more. You have it down a little bit. Keep it even with your shoulder.
You are also keeping your right hand more in the middle of your face, and are very open for a hook. Your right hand should be almost on your cheek bone, under your eye, so when looking straight you can see it in your peripheral.
Other then those basic things, you look pretty decent for a new fighter. I really like the head movement, that keeps the opponent guessing. Try to mix it up a bit. Instead of constantly back and forth, throw in some dips. Left, middle, left, dip right, left, dip, right, right dip down.
There are alot of things you can do. I would also work on your stamina! About less then half way in you started to slow down.
Goodluck, hope this helps.
d_lyrik803 12-08-2008, 01:02 AM head movement is good so keep doing it, but too predictable, so work on that.
foot work def needs some work. need to stay on your toes. going clockwise most of the time is bad habit, need to go other way also. pivoting is also important.
hands are good, as far as speed, but punching technique is lacking some. like someone else said, punches come from legs not your shoulders. close your hands when you throw punches, open hands bad habit and leads to broken hands.
would like to see more body shots, not always head hunting, and go for the 5 count 1 2 3 duck 3 2 and jab out... you're going 1 2 3 duck 3... might as well throw that cross. or if you duck a lil lower, you can use your leg power to set up some decent upper cuts.
i got the impression that you were just throwing most of those punches without thinking about it. use strategics in your shadow just like you would in a real sparring session or fight.
gancho_al_igado 12-08-2008, 01:16 AM Not bad, but you definetly need to work on footwork, it seems to me you might be a easy target to hit. Iam sure youll work on it.
TheTruthIs 12-08-2008, 03:25 AM Why are you punching so high, and upward?
Are you expecting your opponent to be 3-5" taller? If not...bring that **** down.
Landon S 12-08-2008, 03:47 AM You really need to use your feet & legs when your punching. Your hook is terrible.
You keep going the same way at the same pace. Too predictable.
Its good that you move your head alot but it looks dumb and your moving it out from behind your guard.
For now just shadowbox for 1:00 at a time because you slow down at that point and get lazy. Keep your shadowboxing fast and footwork powerful.
legs are locked. you need to bend your knees with your punches as power originates from the bottom up. you got quick hands though, but power would be increased if you stop locking your knees. You're also flatfooted. You're defense is limited with your feet flat on the ground as it will take you longer to react to punches. You're head movement isn't enough to avoid combination punching to the body.
mr tricky 12-08-2008, 11:42 AM dont constantly circle left , contanly mix it up, farwuds, bacwards, right, left, pivot ect....
you are "arm punching" use your full body, starting from your legs and hips and shoulders ect , for power and technique,
stop needesly moving your head about, learn how to properly bob and weave if you wanna do that,
good hand speed though.......
TheCheetah 12-08-2008, 12:40 PM I have corrected a lot of this. I do appreciate everyone's comments and feedback. This video is from June 5, 2008 and it is now December 8th. It's been a lot of work in the gym since this video. I don't upload that many videos of myself training. This was just one that I decided to upload.
TheBlackSwifty 12-08-2008, 02:39 PM You have good head movement, keep at that.
head movement is good so keep doing it, but too predictable, so work on that.
All that says is that you guys know **** about boxing. Head movement is terrible. You move the head in order to slip or avoid punches, moving it back and forth like a pendulum for no real purpose is stupid. Its good to do head movement, but properly in the way Punchdrunk said. He should try to imagine he is slipping a real punch when doing head movement. Not swinging side to side that looks like a homey try-hard kid trying to walk with a rapper/gansta sway. That just wouldnt work in a boxing match.
Ya got potential tho, keep at it
Sadler 12-08-2008, 04:30 PM Good speed, but your head moves like theres something wrong!
p.s. dont talk about yourself in 3rd person, eg "Chad Shadow Boxing" lol

Some people take things way to literal. I was never saying his head movement is top notch. The kid is a new fighter, and is moving his head around. Most new fighters keep their head still and have tons of other issues. Getting in the habbit of keeping your head moving is not a bad thing.
To say I know nothing about boxing is absurd. I know more then most of the people on these forums. I have been boxing over 16 years, fought on the national level, and been trained and sparred with former world champions. Unlike most people on this forum, I have experience and don't talk and give advice from books that I've read or video's I've seen.
Thank you, try again.

Fair enough I took it that u were complimenting the type of headwork but I see what ya mean no offence
Domey 12-08-2008, 05:28 PM Fair enough I took it that u were complimenting the type of headwork but I see what ya mean no offence
No, his head movement along with alot of other things of course needs improvement. However, he IS moving his head which you don't see many new fighters do much of. Getting in that habbit is very good. Once he gets more involved with training and more experience, he'll know how to work on it and critique it. As I also said in the post I gave suggestions on how to move his head, rather then just back and forth and being predictable.
d_lyrik803 12-08-2008, 05:38 PM domey pretty much explained what i was going to say.
im pretty new to the game about a year n a half but maybe i should have specified clearly. i wouldnt be giving advice if i didnt practice in the sport... its common sense. i might not know everything about boxing but i do know some '****'.

your footwork+punches dont really look fluid. try and step into your punches to get more power atleast thats where i get most of my power from.
For example, at 0:15 you throw a couple of arm punches, no step coming with it.
