I don't think so, some of the best fighters I know in person never started till their 20's.

Also, that is a plus if your in good shape already and you already know some stuff about boxing. The guys I'm talking about just took up boxing, they weren't ever fans of it really until now. So you'd probably would have a better start then they did and wouldn't have to put much effort into somethings you already know.

I'm 24 and I'm about to train just for fun, not to become a professional boxer.:boxing:

It depends on your weight class. Starting at 22 might be good for a heavyweight.

If boxing doesn't work out for you, you may want to try MMA. It requires less skill than boxing does.

i'm 24, started training seriously when i was 23. I am in the best shape of my life.

It is not too late for you. You will be fighting younger guys, but once you get used to this fact, it's no problem. If you watched the Olympics this year, there were many 20+ year olds - mid 20's fighters in there from all countries.

i started when i was 20. i don't think its too old as long as u take advantage of your young age.

Football training and boxing training are vastly different. Football players at my club had a nasty habit of hanging up the gloves after only a week or two.

Too old for what exactly?

Not to old , I started boxing @ 26, 27 ....The physical maturation that comes with age help quite a bit , provided you can take a punch. Just remember being in "football shape " and "boxing shape" are two entirely different things. Drop the excess bulk in order to box effectively .P Johnson

If it was real football you would probbly be in better shape and more athletic than if it is gay Gridiron aka Smear the queer. In either case it is not too late to start. Some of the pro's in my gymnasium started at that age or later, although some were from other combat sports. One of them fought for a European title once, so you can get somewhere when starting late. There is one guy who had no am's and after 2 years of training he turned pro. Now he has a 17-3 record which is not bad considering he had no am's and started as an adult! If you played other sport before it means you have co-ordination and athleticism but if you were a fat blob lineman I doubt you may have needed any athleticism at all! If you were a quarterback or one of them guys who run away from the fags and cath ball to get the touchdown then yes, you will have a few tools in the bag to take with you. Give it a go son. Just do it!

i actually agree with him, gridiron is a pretty **** game, the only athletic ones are the dudes that throw or jump and run after the ball and catch it, the fat pieces of crap who run into each other are hopeless....and they stop play like every 10 seconds wtf is that?

soccer would put you in better stead to start boxing, hes right

HA, 22? no sweat. If your entertaining thoughts of turning pro sometime
1) your pretty much at your physical peak now so that'll help
2) your young so you have alot of time & energy to train
3) REAL discipline usually starts now so your training will probability be better than a 16 year old punks which = better results in less time.

I started at 21 and power, speed and stamina wise I dominate, Im pretty skilled but thats pretty much all I have to work on which I learn quick because Im not as "stupid" or "stubborn" as I was when I was younger.

Lol did some meatheads feelings get hurt? Please you ******* stop play every 10 seconds to go have a water break. Football players are 20% athelete, 60% meathead 20% steroids. Leave america for once in your life redneck.

22? Shiit i wish i were 22 now. I'm 26 and just started my boxing mission almost 2 years ago. People say i'm still young, but i feel old. So if 26 is still young, 22 is super young.

Did you know Marciano didn't start seriously training as a boxer until he was in his mid 20's?

So the question isn't "am i too old?" The real question is what am i willing to go through to accomplish my goals.

Well said.. I am sure he appreciates the encouraging comments that are being thrown his way. I was reading this thread with the same thoughts in mind as the guy who started this thread. I am glad I did, because now I have a lot of confidence knowing its not too late. I just turned 19 and I am really looking forward to getting involved.

I turn 18 in 3 days ..and I believe that i'm still not too old to do something I like.

With that said, as long as you put enough dedication and heart into something and you set a goal...guaranteed if you work hard enough, you'll reach that goal. (as corny as that sounds)

Hey...i started boxing when I was 14, but stopped a year later lol...imagine what I could've been..... or not.

I believe only a small percent of those who start off young......make it...the rest burn out and find something else to do because they never had it.....

I don't know how well i'll do as an amateur but it's worth a shot.

You ain't too old yourself..26.. Rocky Marciano and a few others started around the ripe age of 24. Look how successful he was :D
