View Full Version : Lewis RETIRED
Kempo Chris 12-06-2003, 03:29 PM Heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis has retired from boxing.
The winner of Klitshco - Johnson will fight Corey Sanders for the vacant title.
DOGGx0 12-06-2003, 03:38 PM ****in bull****. i knew he would do some chicken **** like that. in a rematch klitshco would **** his world up. he got off lucky. he is no boxing legend, what-so-ever, in my book.
KimuraMan 12-07-2003, 03:54 AM Yeah he observed the fight tonight against johnson, saw that vitali was a absolute animal in there and decided that he would retire rather then have to face losing the title to Vitali. Vitali deserves a rematch with Lewis after the last performance, the whole boxing world deserves to see this match but Lewis has decided to rob us all of this awesome matchup.
Kempo Chris 12-07-2003, 05:57 PM Lewis is not a real fighter
DOGGx0 12-08-2003, 12:29 AM OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!!!1
GeNeRaL 12-08-2003, 10:28 AM this is weak if true, where did you read this/hear this? I can't find anything about it anywhere. Only thing i found was a dec. 7th article saying he hasnt decided yet.
Kempo Chris 12-08-2003, 11:41 AM wait and see
GeNeRaL 12-08-2003, 11:45 AM lol ok...but it still doesnt answeer my question :)
handjobs4dollars 12-08-2003, 05:07 PM I can't belive that. Aleast go out as a champ on the mat then a champ running away.
mmafanman 12-08-2003, 07:08 PM Just speculation. He hasn't made any announcement of the sort just yet. I don't know why people dog him all the time. Sure, he's a ****y sonofa*****. But the ****er ducked nobody and he cleaned out the division. Look at his record. Granted, he has some unfinished business with the V brothers, but he's almost 40 already. He's past his prime and has nothing left to prove, IMO.

you say he has nothing left to prove? wtf does "unfinished business" mean then? as far as his age...... does'nt mean ****. Randy Cotoure is 40. since Randy proved the world wrong... that concept is no longer a downfall in fighting. i'm still wondering when randy is gonna call it quits. he is running through everyone, and eventually his time will pass, and i reference that by his age, but it appears to not be a factor when you are the ultamite athlete. Experience has proven to come in clutch. retiring at 40, with unfinished business as a ****ing champion = WEAK! IMO.
mmafanman 12-10-2003, 05:21 PM Here's the difference between Randy Couture and Lennox Lewis. Lennox is an "old" 40-something. Randy is a "young" 40-something. Lewis is past his prime, and if you couldn't see that in his fight against Vitaly, then you're in denial. Still, even an over-the-hill, lazy and out-of-shape Lewis was STILL able to beat Vitaly—whom HBO seemingly has dubbed the next great champ.
Also, on the age excuse, get real, bro. Could you possibly name another 40-plus-year-old, ACTIVE fighter in combat sports who can compete on the level of Randy Couture? Couture is an exception the rule, a freak of nature.
DOGGx0 12-11-2003, 02:40 AM i agree with everything you stated. it just goes to prove that lennox lewis is not the best, not a legend, nothing but a worn out champ... and if wanted to state otherwise... something would have to be proven. obviously its not, so my above statement stands. he has everything to prove as a fighter, but since he isn't the best to his potential (potential = Randy Couture) then hes done. .... if Randy can do it anyone can... thats what makes Randy the best, thats what makes him a legend. You think if he did'nt beat Liddell nor Tito he would be viewed as highly as he is right now? he was the underdog in both fights, regardless his experience, regardless who he has fought.

It's obvious that Lennox is not your favorite fighter. But if we were to argue whether Lennox was the best heavyweight out there while he was active, you would lose. A lot people judge athletes on potential, and tend to understate their accomplishments. This half-ass reasoning is pretty weak. Here's the Lennox resume, and I dare you to come up with a heavyweight whose beaten more quality opponents between 1992-2003 (Lennox's reigning years):
0/31/1992 Donovan Razor Ruddock Won 2 TKO
5/8/1993 Tony Tucker Won 12 W.B.C., Heavyweight
10/1/1993 Frank Bruno Won 7 TKO W.B.C., Heavyweight
5/13/1995 Lionel The Train Butler Won 5 KO
10/7/1995 Tommy Morrison Won 6 TKO
5/10/1996 Ray Mercer Won 10
2/7/1997 Oliver Mc Call Won 5 TKO W.B.C., Heavyweight
7/12/1997 Henry Akinwande Won 5 TKO W.B.C., Heavyweight
10/4/1997 Andrew Golota Won 1 TKO W.B.C., Heavyweight
3/28/1998 Shannon Briggs Won 5 TKO W.B.C., Heavyweight
9/26/1998 Zeljko Mavrovic Won 12 W.B.C., Heavyweight
11/13/1999 Evander Holyfield Won 12 World, Heavyweight
4/29/2000 Michael Grant Won 2 KO World, Heavyweight
7/15/2000 Francois Botha Won 2 TKO World, Heavyweight
11/11/2000 David Tua Won 12 World, Heavyweight
11/17/2001 Hasim Rahman Won 4 KO World, WBC IBF
6/08/2002 Mike Tyson KO 8 World, WBC IBF
6/21/2003 Vitaly Klitschko TKO 6, World WBC IBF
Best there ever was? No. Top 10 heavyweight of all time. Probably not. Legend? Never said he was. Best during his time? Absolutely.
You argue that Lennox is not the best heavyweight out there right now. Well, let me ask you then: Who do you think it is?
On your statement about Randy, I agree with you that he's an inspiration to everyone. Hard work pays off. But he's been blessed with natural talent and good genetics. Those things can't be manufactured, except by God himself.
