AURELIO HOPING FOR FITNESS BOOST
James Carroll 27 November 2008
Fabio Aurelio is confident he is not facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The 29-year-old was substituted at half-time during Wednesday's clash with Marseille but he is hopeful the injury is not too serious.
He told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I was just feeling my calf. I'll have a scan today but I don't think it will be anything too major."
The Reds secured their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a 1-0 victory over the Ligue 1 side, but they were forced to endure some nervy moments as Marseille pressed in search of an equaliser.
"Marseille are a good team and they played well, which created some problems for us," admitted Aurelio.
"But we were very strong in defence and the most important thing was getting the three points to take us through to the next round.
"It was a good goal from Stevie. We know he is important to us and it is good to have him back."
Liverpool go into their final Group D match against PSV Eindhoven level on points with Atletico Madrid, meaning a first-place finish is still up for grabs.
"It is really important to have qualified but there is still one game to go and we would like to finish top of the group," added Aurelio.
"Finishing first could give us a better draw in the next round.
Marseille have an important game against Atletico so we will have to see what happens there."
