View Full Version : Poll-most Deserving To Be Inducted Into The International Boxing Hall Of Fame 1SILVA 11-26-2008, 04:42 PM There are several deserving fighters not yet in the hall of fame. Who do you feel is most deserving to be inducted immediately? PED User 11-26-2008, 06:08 PM Lloyd Marshall Eddie Booker Marshall has wins over: Teddy Yarosz (HOF) Archie Moore (HOF, top 20 fighter all-time) Charley Burley (HOF, top 10 MW all-time) Ezzard Charles (HOF, top 20, maybe top 10 fighter all-time) Jake Lamotta (HOF, top 10 MW all-time) Holman Williams (HOF) Joey Maxim (HOF) And in most of these cases, they guys weren't at end of the ropes. Most were in or close to their primes. I think there should be a spot in there for Danny "Little Red" Lopez to. jmyersdtn 11-30-2008, 04:35 PM Any of those guys would be pretty deserving. Yoko Gushiken is another........ McGoorty 09-12-2011, 05:09 PM There are several deserving fighters not yet in the hall of fame. Who do you feel is most deserving to be inducted immediately? Young Peter Jackson. fitefanSHO 09-12-2011, 05:11 PM Arturo Gatti http://fitefansho.blogspot.com/2011/08/does-arturo-gatti-belong-in.html TBear 09-12-2011, 05:11 PM Can I pick all those named and all the list in the poll. fitefanSHO 09-12-2011, 05:16 PM With no Gatti on the poll list, I voted for Marvin Johnson. Bundana 09-12-2011, 05:18 PM Nice call with Marshall! I think there should be a spot in there for Danny "Little Red" Lopez to. Both Marshall and Lopez are already members of the IBHOF. TheGreatA 09-12-2011, 05:20 PM Both Marshall and Lopez are already members of the IBHOF. Not in 2008. Perhaps the IBHOF were reading BoxingScene forums. Bundana 09-12-2011, 05:25 PM Not in 2008. Perhaps the IBHOF were reading BoxingScene forums. LOL... you are of course right. I didn't notice the date! hhascup 09-12-2011, 07:51 PM Just to let you know, I have been on the International Boxing Hall of Fame Committees to pick the Modern and Old-Timers, and out of the 10 fighters that are listed in the poll, only 3 are on the ballot. JAB5239 09-12-2011, 08:12 PM Just to let you know, I have been on the International Boxing Hall of Fame Committees to pick the Modern and Old-Timers, and out of the 10 fighters that are listed in the poll, only 3 are on the ballot. What is the criteria used to pick the ballots, if you don't mind me asking? hhascup 09-12-2011, 08:24 PM What is the criteria used to pick the ballots, if you don't mind me asking? I don't mind. On the modern (Last bout no earlier than 1943) they have 45 names and on the old-timers (Last bout no earlier than 1893 & no later than 1942) they have 50. On both we can pick as many as 10 but only the top 3 get in. The 45 and 50 names are picked by a very small committee. There is 1 fighter that has been on for years, and was never rated higher then #9 in the World. In each group they pick 3 as I stated, and then the next year they add 3 more so it stays at 45 and 50. I've read most of this before, probably from you. Whjat I meant is how does this committee pick the names to begin with and is there a criteria for it?\ And who is the fighter who has been on for years but never ranked higher than #9? :D hhascup 09-12-2011, 10:01 PM I've read most of this before, probably from you. Whjat I meant is how does this committee pick the names to begin with and is there a criteria for it?\ And who is the fighter who has been on for years but never ranked higher than #9? :D The committee is headed by Herb Goldman and they had most of the fighters on the list for years. They do add 3 new ones every year. On the modern class, they pick the best ones that retired in the last 5 years. In the old-timers they pick who they think should be on the ballot. I don't think there is any real criteria. The fighters name is Gustave Roth McGoorty 09-13-2011, 01:51 PM LOL... you are of course right. I didn't notice the date! Actually it should be either Lester Ellis, Rocky Mattioli or Barry Michael......... it's just anti-Australian. jabsRstiff 09-13-2011, 03:26 PM Aruro Gatti? Very interesting to think about. He doesn't have the victories or real accomplishments to get him in. But, he brought an incredible amount of positive attention to the game, and was in such memorable fights even if the foes weren't the elite/best. Gatti wouldn't get in for his accomplishments, but for his contribution. hhascup 09-13-2011, 03:29 PM Aruro Gatti? Very interesting to think about.
