heres the latest news on him

World boxing champion Manny Pacquiao would love to have his next fight staged in Manila.

The big problem: Is there a local promoter brave enough to foot the P35-40-million bill needed to put up the big-budget card?

“I estimate that it would take around P35-40 million to have Manny fight here. Half of that will go to my boy’s purse. I wouldn’t want the promoter to lose his shirt,” said Pacquiao’s business manager Rod Nazario, himself a promoter, on Tuesday.

Appearing in the Philippine Sportswriters Association forum together with his ward, Nazario added that he could not go any lower than the P19 million ($350,000) Pacquiao got for his last fight.

He explained that his fighter’s stock had risen immensely after beating up highly-favored Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera in San Antonio, Texas on November 16. “It used to be that Manny was looking to challenge. Now, everybody wants to challenge him.”

“If I would have my wish, I would like to have my next fight here. But I leave everything to my business manager. I’ll just abide with whatever his decision is. I take care of the boxing he takes care of busines,” said the 24-year-old pride of General Santos City.

Among the immediate offers, Nazario said, was for Pacquiao to stake his International Boxing Federation super bantamweight crown against Jesus Valbuena of Venezuela in a mandatory title defense.

The IBF has given Pacquiao 90 days since his last fight to take on the No. 1 Venezuelan challenger, which Nazario said could be the Filipino fighter’s last fight in the 122-pound division “if the price is right.”

“This could be Manny’s last fight as a super bantamweight. But, just like I said, we will ask for a purse that is not lower than what he got in battling Barrera. My boy is still growing.”

But Nazario denied that he was already in talks with US cable network Home Box Office for a megabuck, multi-fight deal involving his fighter. “Where’s the contract? I see none so far. Our US agent [Murad Muhammad] is taking care of that.”

For his part, Pacquiao, who will go back to his province to spend the holidays, said he has starterd to set aside money from his earnings for his family’s future, acquiring lots and a farm in Gensan.

“I don’t like my two kids to become a boxer like I am because it is a hard life. That’s why I am already setting aside something for their future.”

Nazario said that he wants Pacquiao’s career to last and would like him to fight only thrice a year.

Barrera looked off from the first punch Pacquiao threw.
maybe to much tecate beer and beans.
Pacquiao soup and rice sure puts a nice spring in his step.
i hate to hear a fighter talk like my business manager this or that.
your manager is more then just business. he`s a pillar in your corner.i`m glad there talking money with Pacquiao,
but wait till he taste the money, it`ll take more then a pillar to keep his heart in the squared circle.it looks like i`ll be keeping my h.b.o subscription a bit longer.

I'm glad to see that he's going to be making big bucks. I hope he doesn't catch the HBO curse, though. Hamed and Forrest haven't recovered from it yet.
