Thats what I read as well. From my understanding, he didn't do anything during his boxing career. His brothers and friends did, but he refused.

i think the one about robinson and ali is true, i think it mentoined something ab0out it in rays book (sugar ray), and it had something to do with alis wifes skirt being too short

I own 2 large bookcases of boxing books plus thousands of boxing mags. From everything I've gathered, Rocky and his wife Barbara had serious marital issues, mostly about the Rock's long term absences from home. even after he retired, he was home something like 60 days total a year. He flew around the country doing speaking gigs, etc.

"Rumors" that Rocky had other female friends while on the road were never confirmed. Ali's wives basically caught Ali with his women. Nobody ever had concrete proof about the allegations against Marciano.

They (Rocky & Barbara) BOTH drifted apart from each other. Being old school Italian, they basically stayed married for their daughter.

Dempsey married a prostitute, Maxine Cates. She was constantly unfaithful to Jack, but he was totally smitten by her and stayed with her despite her infidilty. She was 14 years older than Dempsey. After divorcing her, he later remarried a couple times.

*I NEVER read or heard anything about him breaking in girls before they went to work in brothrels. Frankly, I doubt it very seriously. Dempsey was always looking for someone to love him, not to just screw him. If you've read the books about him, you get the picture that this would not be in character for him.

One ex-champ that was supposed to be really into sex was Sonny Liston. Read "The Devil & Sonny Liston" by Nick Tosches.

i read somewhere that after dempsey became champ he was banging half of hollywood, but i don't think the virgins thing is true. marciano probably f.ucked around after he retired, if he'd been doing all those young girls with dildos he wouldn't have had time for training.

Sam Langford for one. Who knows what was going on at the time he was suppose to fight willis, he might of already knew the fight wasnt going to happen, and after the fights fell through he lost to tunney.

i wouldn't bother trying to defend the Dempsey "ducking" black fighters thing, some of these posters seem like angry blacks who no matter what proof you offer up it won't change their mind

Yeah he ducked Langford, and Langford openly ducked Jim Jeffries. What are you going to read into that? Quit with the assumptions about how he "might" have known the fight wasn't going to happen and stick with the facts. Facts are he frought and sparred with colored fighters and tried to make the Wills fight.

I don't doubt your knowledge or information Yogi. But my point was that Dempsey wasn't ducking fighters based on color. Langford took out newspaper adds challenging any man except Jeffries. Sam wasn't afraid of him because he was white, but because of his skills and the tremendous respect he had for him as a fighter. This in all likelyhood is the same scenerio for Dempsey not wanting to fight Langford since he had already fought black fighters and had or would go on to try and make the Wills fight.

back when dempsey was champ, i don't think blacks could fight for the title until louis came along. something about jack johnson and the racism at the time.

I heard Sloppiano pimped his sister out before he made it big. He would ask all the Guido's and Chulo's to pay them $5 before going upstairs.

Archie Moore was once quoted as saying something along the lines of "Jack Johnson was the worst thing that could happen to American blacks, because of him we can't get a shot at the title anymore" or something of that nature. Many black american fighters despised Johnson because whites of that time absolutely did not want a black man to hold the title after what Jack did. In any case, sure Jack sort of did duck black fighters, because his manager who wouldn't allow him to fight blacks. Also keep in mind that they had to cancel the Wills fight which was suppose to be held in New York because of the fact that there was a fear that a race war was going to break out. So there were alot of tensions at that time. I did read somewhere that Dempsey and Jack Johnson were friends. In any case, everyone ducked the good black fighters back in the old days, especially other black fighters just ask Ray Robinson and Jack Johnson.
