View Full Version : Baroni suspended for one year by Connecticut Athletic Commission
Curly Howard 11-24-2003, 11:01 AM UPDATE: MMAWeekly's Scott Petersen has learned that Phil Baroni has had his fight license revoked by the Athletic Commission suspended for one year IN THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT. Baroni has also been fined $5,000 dollars. The Athletic Commission said the way he treated the referee was the direct result. No news yet of the state of Nevada will also follow the ruling. Frank Trigg was fined an undisclosed amount for wearing the **** star hat.
GeNeRaL 11-24-2003, 11:14 AM The Baroni thing is well deserved and warranted, in my opinion.
Triggs's "VinceVoyeur.com" hat earning him a fine is a little lame though.
handjobs4dollars 11-24-2003, 12:06 PM why does tito get to wear those stupid spanky xx shorts then. Same with ricco. It's a **** shop is it not?
Curly Howard 11-24-2003, 12:11 PM I just emailed the Nevada Athletic Commission to confirm but usually in a case where one body bans someone the other will honor it. If this is the case Baroni won't be able to fight in Nevada or Connecticut. I'm not sure how New Jersey is and if they will let him fight or not. I'll post the reply of the email if they send one.
Bluecifer 11-24-2003, 01:03 PM LMAO @ the REVOKED NY bad ass!
Kempo Chris 11-24-2003, 02:22 PM what did he do to the ref?

Curly Howard 11-24-2003, 03:59 PM Dear Sirs,
The Connecticut athletic commission just suspended the UFC's Phil Baroni for life for his actions in a match on November 21st. Will Phil Baroni be allowed to fight in Nevada or will you honor their suspension?
Thank You,

Curly Howard 11-24-2003, 04:18 PM No it's the state of Nevada.
Curly Howard 11-24-2003, 04:30 PM ok now I finally got the story. Too many damn rumors going around.
Here's what happened
It has been reported that the UFC's Phil Baroni has been suspended for one year by the Connecticut athletic commission and suspended for life from fightin at the Mohegan Sun for his actions in the November 21st match against Evan Tanner.
Baroni tried to strike at UFC official Larry Landless after his fight was stopped. Landless thought he heard Baroni say that he wanted the fight stopped. Baroni claims he told the referee that he was fine. Phil punched at Larry from his back.
I emailed the Nevada state athletic commission about the suspension. This was their reply:

mmafanman 11-24-2003, 07:43 PM As Dana White said after the Tanner-Baroni fight: "JESUS CHRIST! ****ING RELAX, PHIL! JESUS CHRIST!"
If, only....
momita 11-25-2003, 11:06 AM LOL, what Dana said after that fight. Actually, when Baroni apologized, it was the first time I actually liked him...... he seemed sincere & likable, strange huh?
lightweight 11-25-2003, 11:30 AM I heard he apologized to everyone but Larry.
mmafanman 11-25-2003, 07:43 PM I have a feeling Dana made Baroni apologize to the public after that fight. At any rate, he's definitely paying for what he did.
NHBfan4life 11-26-2003, 01:07 AM I hope he never fights again! After the way he laughed at Soulev & then hits Landless, He does not belong in MMA, If our sport never goes mainstream it will be because of fighters like him.

I hate his ass too...
VulgarTheClown 11-26-2003, 07:49 AM **** that, I'm not saying i'd of hit the ref but i can completely understand why he did.
I do not train my ass off for a fight to get there and have some ref jump in when i am defending myself intelligently cause he had a misconception or mis communication. not to mention yackin my ear off while i'm fighting.
you know how mad you get watching football or playin videogames? imagine if you were fighting. **** LANDLESS.
as for his appology, if you looked at his eyes he was lookin off to the side alot. I'd say taking ques on appologizing.
also sappoedly Landless posted an oppology to Baroni saying it was a miscommunication, etc...
in light of landless admiting it was a miscommunication it should be deamed a no contest.
VulgarTheClown 11-26-2003, 09:40 AM I got this off the UG

Got this off Sherdog.com:
I would like to take this opportunity to apologize publicly to Phil Baroni for the miscommunication that occurred last Friday night during his fight with Evan Tanner. I thought I was helping Phil by stopping the fight but now understand that he wanted to continue.
I am sorry about the whole situation and wish I could take it back and do it all over again. It was a terrible misunderstanding and I feel very sorry for Phil Baroni and his girlfriend. I wish them all the luck in the world in all of their future endeavors. I hope Phil can gain strength from this horrible situation and go on to bigger better things and I hope this will help me grow as a person and professional as well.
Respectfully,
Larry Landless
