I'll start, Castillo - Corrales. ironalex 11-19-2008, 03:59 PM "no fights from the 50s or anything" that rules out robinson vs lamotta, and archie moore yvon durelle, but yeah okay newer era, mugabi vs hagler, duran vs barkley, castillo corrales, vasquez vs marquez, hearns vs hagler, theres been loads tbh lol so difficult to say Aztec Wanker 11-19-2008, 04:06 PM ive been a boxing fan for a little bit about 2 or 3 years. vazquez/marquez 3 has been the greatest fight ive seen. if i were a fan in the late 80's early 90's, chavez/taylor no question. i imagined ive wouldve passed out from the drama/excitement angus the bull 11-19-2008, 04:08 PM de la hoya vs ike quartey, gatti vs ward maybe? charlie zelenoff vs andrew hartley anonymousboxing 11-19-2008, 04:17 PM Maybe not the best I've seen, but I'm still glowing from a fight I caught last night: Tony Margarito vs Antonio Diaz Imagine 10 rounds of non-stop work on both parts. It's like Marg was fighting another Marg. Neither would budge up until the very end. NO CLINCHING, just barrage after barrage. I'm placing this in Classic. http://i423.photobucket.com/albums/pp312/anonymousboxing/detention-1.gif Grand Champ 11-19-2008, 04:29 PM Jermain Taylor vs. Kelly Pavlik I 1SILVA 11-19-2008, 04:43 PM "no fights from the 50s or anything" that rules out robinson vs lamotta, and archie moore yvon durelle, but yeah okay newer era, mugabi vs hagler, duran vs barkley, castillo corrales, vasquez vs marquez, hearns vs hagler, theres been loads tbh lol so difficult to say The best fight I ever saw live on televison was Bobby Chacon-Bazooka Limon IV. A close second would be James Toney-Vassiliy Jirov dde91 11-19-2008, 04:51 PM Morales and Barrera, Hopkins vs. Trinidad, Mayorga vs. Forrest, Fargas vs. De La Hoya. Those are some that i liked. MikeBrew328 11-19-2008, 05:07 PM Jermain Taylor vs. Kelly Pavlik I Co-sign. On live tv or in person. Probably Margarito Cotto. I remember thinking, how could it ever go one more round like that... It would have to be Mayweather Hatton, Cotto-Malignaggi, Cotto-Judah, Gatti- Ward 1. dondi330 11-19-2008, 05:07 PM Morales Vs. Barrera Trinidad Vs. Vargas Hagler Vs. Hearns Gatti Vs. Ward Castillo Vs. Corrales Trinidad Vs. Yori Boy Campas Bowe Vs. Holifield Lewis Vs. Klitschko No Order. MikeBrew328 11-19-2008, 05:09 PM De la Hoya- Mosley 1, Vargas Smokin'J 11-19-2008, 05:13 PM Holyfield Bowe? BattlingNelson 11-19-2008, 05:36 PM Either Tyson-Douglas or Leonard-Hagler. At least they got me the most exited. For sheer awesome brutallity I have to go with Hagler-Hearns or Lewis-Klitschko. -CANE- 11-19-2008, 05:40 PM I'm talking about a fight you saw either on live tv or in person, no fights from the 50's or anything. I'll start, Castillo - Corrales. In person either Benn vs Eubank I or Eubank vs Watson II. Lewis vs Ruddock was great while it lasted as well. As for live on TV then probably Kid Akeem Anifawoshe vs Robert Quiroga or Dave McCauley vs Fidel Bassa I. poet682006 11-19-2008, 06:28 PM So many years so many good ones to chose from..... How about this in chronological order: Ali - Foreman Ali - Frazier III Duran - Leonard I Leonard - Hearns I Pryor - Arguello I Hagler - Hearns Tyson - Ruddock II Benn - McClelland Bowe - Holyfield I Holyfield - Tyson I Ibeabuchi - Tua Gatti - Ward I, II, III Here's some I wished I'd seen at the time but didn't until years later: Frazier - Ali I Duran - DeJesus I, II, III Holmes - Shavers II Leonard - Benitez Holmes - Cooney Holyfield - Qawi I Chavez - Taylor I Poet Terry A 11-19-2008, 06:37 PM George Foreman vs Ron Lyle Gerald McClelland vs Nigel Benn Matthew Saad Muhamad vs Marvin Johnson Evander Holyfield vs Mike Dokes was action packed. One fight from the 1980's that I will never forget was "Dangerous" Don Lee vs Leroy Hestor, which was on an undercard of an NBC SportsWorld telecast fight card. Them guys POUNDED each other for 8 rounds until Hestor finally was KOed. I wish we had some videotape of that one. Anybody remember seeing that one? PED User 11-20-2008, 02:29 AM 1. Diego Corrales-Jose Luis Castillo I 2. Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier III 3. (tie) Archie Moore-Yvon Durelle I and Matthew Franklin/Saad Muhammad-Marvin Johnson I Richie-G 11-20-2008, 09:46 AM cotto v margarito Ian_ST24i 11-20-2008, 10:15 AM I've been watching boxing (live and on tv) from the late 70's on. And there have been so many i could choose. It was only 3 rounds but considering the build-up to the fight, the media hype, the atmosphere and the fight itself (while it lasted), HAGLER vs HEARNS was my favourite. I was 17yo, and was in total awe of it all. Clegg 11-20-2008, 11:49 AM Tyson-Holyfield I. It really was like watching history in the making, and the longer the fight went on, the more it had an air of finality about it. Not just that Tyson was going to lose, but that this was it, he was done and would never be great again. dans 11-20-2008, 02:31 PM Barrera - Morales 1 was great too. JAB5239 11-20-2008, 04:08 PM I was about 10 feet from the ring for Jirov-Toney. That was probably the best fight I saw live. On television.....Coralles-Castillo, but I didn't actually see it for a few weeks after it happened. britnostalgic 11-22-2008, 05:53 AM For me probably Benn vs gerald mcclellan... wonderful fight, had everything you could wish for. Apart from the unfortunate ending, very sad. The_Bull 11-23-2008, 09:24 PM Marquez-Vazquez II. Round 3 was pure gold. warp1432 11-23-2008, 11:06 PM 1. Diego Corrales-Jose Luis Castillo I 2. Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier III 3. (tie) Archie Moore-Yvon Durelle I and Matthew Franklin/Saad Muhammad-Marvin Johnson I I really want to see this fight. Do you have a copy? Your top two are also my top two by the way. Dan... 11-24-2008, 12:26 AM Being over in Australia it is pretty rare that we get to watch fights live. It pretty much restricts us to PPVs. Of the ones I have bought I would probably go with Margarito-Cotto. PED User 11-24-2008, 03:36 AM I really want to see this fight. Do you have a copy? Your top two are also my top two by the way. http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2632968&postcount=1813 The rematch is very good too. http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4338090&postcount=2 Soda Popinski 11-25-2008, 09:38 PM For me it was Barrera vs. Hamed, mainly because I was just so tired of Hamed's prima donna antics, ring entrances and 2yrs of ducking half the division. Barrera just plain outworks the guy for the first half of the fight. Then at the end of the 7th (if memory serves, usually it doesn't lol) Hamed was trying for some tough guy stare down. You could see Hamed trying for a look of "that's all you got??"..... but you could read his mind and instead it was saying "I can't f-ing believe this is happening". cptroyce 11-30-2008, 01:06 PM Gatti-Ward 1, Castillo-Corrales 1, Barrera-Morales..others of course, but these stand out for me. I can watch them over and over and still be awed by these fighters. MarkScott 12-12-2008, 11:24 PM Ali-Foreman. I still remember everyone thought Ali was getting his butt kicked. How wrong they were! oldgringo 12-13-2008, 02:41 AM Chavez/Taylor I Castillo/Corrales I Ali/Frazier III Toney/Jirov Morales/Barrera I Duran/Barkley Hagler/Hearns crazyjames 12-13-2008, 02:45 AM castillo coralles still the best fight i've seen. just when you think coralles is done.. he comes back after been knocked down twice to stop castillo.... instant classic. Damn boxing misses coralles r.i.p. KostyaTszyu44 12-13-2008, 05:24 AM actually duran vs barkely great fight ma51f 12-13-2008, 07:39 AM hamad v kelly JulioCesaChavez 12-17-2008, 01:49 AM Marquez boxing Pacman's ears in the first fight. That was a great comeback and also one of the worst robberies that I saw live too. them_apples 12-17-2008, 02:35 AM Chavez/Taylor I Castillo/Corrales I Ali/Frazier III Toney/Jirov Morales/Barrera I Duran/Barkley Hagler/Hearns the Morales and Barrera fights were freaking crazy, Pacquiao vs marquez 2 Cotto vs Margarito Gatti vs Ward 1-2-3 Ali vs Foreman some obvious ones.. miron_lang 12-17-2008, 02:54 AM Hagler-Hearns I was really sad when hearns got kayoed. I was rooting for hearns at the time. optkliluzn 12-17-2008, 03:20 AM Gatti vs Ward part 1 HANDS DOWNHagler-Hearns I was really sad when hearns got kayoed. I was rooting for hearns at the time. Shiranui 12-17-2008, 04:26 AM Vasquez-Marquez III for a live fight. As for video: Arguello-Escalera II Chacon-Limon IV Mayweather-Gatti Barrera-Hamed all left a strong impression on me. TSZYULANDER 12-17-2008, 07:00 PM Pryor - Arguello 1 Hagler - Hearns Chaves-Taylor 1 Lester Ellis - Barry Michael(obscure , but the Aussies on here would know what I'm talking about) Dynamite Kid 12-18-2008, 12:55 PM Watson v Eubank 2 is the best fight British fight ever imo and allthough it turned out to be a very tragic fight its was still amazing to watch. warlike penguin 12-20-2008, 09:08 AM Lewis vs. Vitali of 2003 Tua vs. Ibeabuchi of 1997 Tyson vs. Holyfield of 1996 Bushbaby 12-21-2008, 11:56 AM A fight with Mickey Ward fighting a 15-0 guy named Sanchez.I believe it was on the undercard of DLH Sweet Pee fight.Ward was taking a beating for about 7 rounds i believe, but 2 body shots from Ward and that was all she wrote for Sanchez, greatest comback win ive ever seen!!! rorymac 12-22-2008, 03:54 AM 3 best: Corrales - Castillo I Vazquez - Marquez III Chavez - Taylor I El Dominicano 12-22-2008, 05:37 AM B-Hop vs Antwun 2 B-Hop vs Mercado 2 B-Hop give beat downs in rematchs lol B-Hop vs Johson Mayweather vs Chico Mayweather vs Chop chop Chico vs JLC Joan Guzman vs Barrios...What a fight Pernell Whitaker vs Roger Mayweather/ JCC COOP407 12-26-2008, 04:19 PM Holmes-Cooney, Hagler-Hearns, Castillo-Corrales, Hagler-Leonard, Hearns-Leonard II, Duran-Barkely, Barkley-Benn, Benn-McClellan. Ernie M 02-22-2009, 02:24 AM Great great list Ironalex, but I'd throw Duran/Leonard I in also. And just for fun, De La Hoya/Mayorga, because of the ass whipping he gave Mayorga for talking ****. At least guys like Duran and Ali could back their mouths up. |
