Just been browsing the history books and I came across Lennox Lewis's interesting comment that Mavrovic was the hardest fighter he ever faced.

Even more surprisng that Lewis was the only blot on Mavrović's copybook (28 fights, 27 wins and 20 by KO).

Given his creditable performance, I find it odd that he didn't make it onto the big fight merry-go-round - like other losing challengers such as Golota, who hung around for years despite never truly delivering.

Can anyone shed light on this character?

An underated boxer who gave Lewis a very tough fight, Lewis managed to outbox him but couldn't put him away despite hitting him with some of the best punches and combinations he ever threw.

After losing the decision to Lewis he returned to Croatia and was asked to do national service. He said some years later that it was merely a promotional issue on behalf of the government, but then he fell ill with a mystery condition that some attributed to his macrobiotic lifestyle.

He refused to change his way of life but lost more than 40lbs in weight. He never boxed again, but resurfaced some years later with Croatian television, working as an analyst, when Lewis boxed Mike Tyson in Memphis in 2002.

I own all in the Thunderdome. Seriously I just felt like a change, have a good night too man.

this fella was a good tough fighter, and one a lot of people just dismiss as some european level fighter

the problem is that at the time a lot of these guys were offered the chance to fight each other and they all declined and were content to sit and wait at a shot for one of the top guys
