View Full Version : what music do you listen to when you train?
tarka 11-07-2004, 03:40 PM lately i've found myself listening to heavy guitar music in the last few months as it really gets me motivated and disciplined to train. i find this strange coz i've always listened to hip hop but hip hop isn't as angry as it used to be to get me going. the new saul williams album is quite angry and heavy with the guitars. i would be interested to know what the rest of you guys listen to to get going.

Everything and Anything, It varies from some heavy metal rock to some upbeat pop. Depends on the exercises as well...
If I am trying to catch a rhythm while jumping rope/heavy bag/speed bag, It is usually something to the effect of some R&B to get that groove going.
wathever thats on the radio.
patto1984 11-07-2004, 06:23 PM nething with good beat n rythem. Or b4 a fight something to psyc me up and get me pumped.
Dyl-G 11-07-2004, 06:29 PM This song "Role Call" by lil jon and ice cube will get u pumped up (they even have a line about roy jones jr in the song) but then again any lil jon song will get you phsyced. And in terms of rock rammstein, slayer, metallica, pennywise..
blockburna944 11-07-2004, 06:42 PM For me, its not always about getting pumped (although it is a lot). Sometimes i just listen to something gets you to just focus really well and calm yourself.

I despise lil jon, I guess listening to him would make me agressive. :D
I still cant believe that someone can get paid ridiculous amounts of money to scream in an annoying tone.

And in terms of rock rammstein, slayer, metallica, pennywise.. Yeah that Lil Jon with Cube is sic. I've always listened to hip-hop, house, and r&b while working out .

lol. Yeah, I agree its ridiculous and funny. Also there is just something about him that makes me more dedicated and makes me forget the pain and fatigue in my body to make me keep going it keeps me focused, sometimes ill even think of stuff you guys have said on some of these threads they influence me too. wierd, but it works
patto1984 11-07-2004, 10:06 PM i hate lil jon. that **** aint hip hop
Dyl-G 11-07-2004, 10:38 PM no **** it aint hip-hop practicaly everything that comes out today isnt hip hop its all bs, or as eazy e said "pranksta pranksta story book gangsta."
spinksjinx 11-07-2004, 10:46 PM I like to listen to a lot of music I hate it pushes me to get **** done faster lol......But in the end I end up liking it :(
I recently just pulled out all of my old nwa/death row records good god now that is some good rap music.
Dyl-G 11-07-2004, 11:29 PM i like eazy and ruthless records better than dre and snoop and deathrow for some reason i donno but i like how dre mixed george clinton and the p-funk to make the chronic and the g funk era i thought that **** sounded so good and so original. but real mutha****in g's by eazy is still my most favorite gangsta rap song and i think better than dre day.
nezahualcoyotl 11-07-2004, 11:59 PM yea the video by Eazy is even more OG...i kant believe Dr.Dre was all dressed in sparkles then tried to become a 'G' lol...true Studio Gangsta
Dyl-G 11-08-2004, 12:46 AM yea their fight was like a trial in court with eazy e prosecuting dr dre as a studio gangster and eazy e had the evidence and presided ooooooooh yeah
spinksjinx 11-08-2004, 06:13 AM i like eazy and ruthless records better than dre and snoop and deathrow for some reason i donno but i like how dre mixed george clinton and the p-funk to make the chronic and the g funk era i thought that **** sounded so good and so original. but real mutha****in g's by eazy is still my most favorite gangsta rap song and i think better than dre day.
The Chronic is easily hands down one of if not the best gangster rap albums of all time...
Gangster Rappers=Wannabe Gangsters...Real Gangsters dont talk about that kind of stuff.
NWA/Ice Cube/Dr. Dre/Snoop Dogg (pre doggfather album)/easy E
None of these guys early albums can be touched by anyone, Westside Connection is right behind them, Bow Down is easily one of the best songs as well...
I know Ice Cube has a music video dvd, but does anyone know if they have a dvd out w/ all the old snoop dogg/easy E/dr. dre videos????
If so I have to get my hands on that.
chito 11-08-2004, 07:22 AM eric johnson, steve bai, joe satriani. the energy that their music produces makes you feel it inside you, try them!
i listen to
diana ross : "i want muscles"
Muscles
Diana Ross
She said she wants a man
To always understand
But that's alright for her
Still it ain't enough for me
She said she wants a guy
To keep her satisfied
But that's alright for her
But it ain't enough for me
Still, I don't care if he's young or old
(Just make him beautiful)
I just want someone I can hold on to
I want muscles
All, all over his body
(Make him strong enough from his head down to his toes)
I want muscles
All, all over his body
(Make him strong enough from his head down to his toes)
They say they have to see
His real personality
But that's alright for them
Still it ain't enough for me
I need what the eyes can see, ah
(His anatomy)
If that's alright for them
Still it ain't enough for me
I don't care if he's young or old
Just make him beautiful
I just want some strong man to hold on to
I want muscles
All, all over his body
(Make him strong enough from his head down to his toes)
I want muscles
All over his body
(Make him strong enough from his head down to his toes)
Muscle man, I want to love you
In person, I want your body
Come with me, hiding the cascades
Let this be, we've got this thing made
Lost at sea, hide the desert
Stay with me, you won't regret it
Take this love, so deep to swim in
Come to me, and let the love in
She said she wants a man
To always understand
But that's alright for her
Still it ain't enough for me
I don't care if he's young or old
(Just make him beautiful)
I just want someone I can hold on to
I want muscles
All, all over his body
(Make him strong enough from his head down to his toes)
I want muscles
All over him, all over him
I want muscles
All, all over his body
I want muscles
I want all I can get
All over him, all over him
I want muscles, muscles, muscles
this song is the absolute motivator

speedbag 11-09-2004, 09:48 PM I find that Listening to music, actually "hitting" to music, with the Speed Bag is a very engaging workout. The Beat of the Bag can fit to ANY kind of music. From Classical to Techno, Rock, Dance, BlueGrass, alternative.... it works with them all. You can Simply punch the Speed Bag from the front "on the beat" of the music- when you tap your foot. Every four beats of music is Four Punches.. Depending on the Music speed, you may be able to punch "twice as fast" ( double time, meaning every four taps of your foot = 8 punches.) This works for slower music. Or, For very fast music, Punch the bag in "half time", or One punch for every two taps of your foot.
Now the truth is, It is hard to tap your foot and do this.... You have to feel it. But if you got any rhythm at all, ( and what boxer doesn't??) you can feel the beat pretty easily. Hitting the speed bag to music makes the time fly by a lot fast and forces you to maintain a constant punching speed to keep up with the music. With Practice, You can even start hitting from different sides and make the bag beat sound like a drum part against the song your hitting to. :o
Here is link to some speed bag video clips that demonstrate hitting to music. ( It sure beats just standing there punching for 3-5 minutes..)
http://www.speedbagcentral.com/Demos.html
ps. You can right click on each clip and save it to your HardDrive.
Train safe and turn the music up!

Deejay 11-15-2004, 11:00 PM When I'm training, I can't go past the Godfather of Soul, James Brown...it just gets me energized. If not that, then any South American latin type music which is really uptempo...good for your rhythm and timing I find.
Argentina 11-23-2004, 09:20 PM lately i've found myself listening to heavy guitar music in the last few months as it really gets me motivated and disciplined to train. i find this strange coz i've always listened to hip hop but hip hop isn't as angry as it used to be to get me going. the new saul williams album is quite angry and heavy with the guitars. i would be interested to know what the rest of you guys listen to to get going.

Argentina 11-24-2004, 12:43 PM definitely music is a great thing to lsiten to while training. I do karate and they stress how many higheer level martial artists have used msuic to compliment their training, such as KATAS. Fat Shamz 11-24-2004, 03:29 PM I listen to "eye of the tiger"
Dr.Pugilist 11-24-2004, 04:04 PM Rage Against the Machine is great music to work out to, especially their first cd. Also good is 8Ball and MJG 'On top of the World' ; the whole cd is good.
Occasionally, if I do ropework , I'll listen to some hardcore drum 'n' bass. It puts me into an upbeat trance and focus on my work without getting too bored, dostracted, or impatient.
