"I’m 200 times the athlete that he is. I can jump higher, run faster, move quicker, move longer — anything we do that I know just as well as he does I’m going to crush him."

– Former heavyweight champion Frank Mir compares his athletic ability to that of Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira after losing the coaches challenge on the latest episode of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) on ****e TV. “Big Nog” scored more goals in a soccer challenge, winning his team members $1,000 each. Mir was clearly upset about the result. He’ll have his chance at redemption in the main event at UFC 92: “The Ultimate 2008″ on December 27 when the two Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialists battle for the division title on New Year’s Eve weekend. -mmamania.com

Am I the only one that things this is hilarious?

Nogueira isn't much of an athlete (not saying he isn't a great fighter) but his technique, toughness and conditioning should win him this fight unless he is completely shot.

I really started to like mir with his commentating on WEC, he always has had alot of great input...
But from watching this season, he really is arrogant, and his personality is nothing that i thought it was...
I think hes a punk, i hope big nog breaks him in half.

Just the usual talk before a fight. I should think Nogueira will win this one.

Dam Nog's childhood musta sucked, not only did he get ran over but he sucked in soccer in a place like Brazil.

Dana White is hilarious, "Nog is diving to block the ball, trying, Frank Mir is just stopping it if it comes in front of him, he like, i'm not messing up my hair for this". lol

Always thought Nog was a cool guy and the show validates it completely, but Mir sure is funny. You never really got to see this side of him, it was always the UFC fighter guy or the WEC commentator side you saw but I think he's pretty cool. I loved it when he called out Delgado about his Black Belt in front of everyone and Roli was trying think up an overelaborate story about how it came to be.

Got to see what side of him? The arrogant prick who doesn't have the social skills needed to realize he is insulting a more mature and refined man in Nogueira, all the while leading a Team Chock-Full of Redneck *******s?

That's your interpretation Bricks, and in all honesty you are bias to Nog because he's a former Pride fighter as usual. He's a fighter, and most fighters are bound to act macho and arrogant, nothing new to combat sports so deal with it. And as for the team, last I checked, Vinny's brazilian, Krzysztof is Polish/Canadian, Shane is Hawaiian and Eliot is African American so its not really a team full of Rednecks. Plus, its dead even as it stands which shows Mir is leading his team just as well as Nog is they just do things differently and act differently.

the only chance Mir has is with Nog is through decision. not to take anything away from Mir because he a great fighter but even Fedor couldn't shut Nog down.

First, who said you had to be white to act like a redneck? Second, I do for the most part have a PRIDE bias, but this isn't one of the cases. Mir was one of my favorites up until seeing him act like a retard recently, almost like when Shamrock lost a bit of his fan base when TUF 3 aired and people saw that it was his fault, not Tito's. Third, I will never be a fan of a fighter who acts macho and arrogant outside of the ring. That shows a degree of classlessness. You know, just as I do, that being a fighter does not equal being an ******* when your job is done. Mir has grown disrespectful of Nogueira on this show, and there is no way to debate otherwise. His team may be full of good athletes, but as far as class goes, I'm afraid they were all sapped of it as soon as they left the womb.

Shamrock had lost his fanbase the day he signed with the WWE, and prior to that he was an ******* anyhow. Just look at what most fighters from his era would say about him as a person. And if you base who you like as a fighter on what they are like as a person then you must dislike the majority of fighters in the sport, sure I agree being afighter doesn't equal being an ******* but I don't believe it should factor into my opinion of them as fighters. I don't see Mir being an ******* is just speaking his mind. IMO I haven't seen anything disrespectful from Mir towards Nog so far.

Turning his back when Nogueira kindly asked him to stop the jokes? Repeatedly saying that his B Level fighter's Jiu Jitsu was better than Nogueira's? I know the story and his history, no explanation needed. But to say that his Jiu Jitsu is better than Nogueira's is ridiculous, since Nogueira has implemented it in a way nobody has yet to. Pure Jiu Jitsu may be a different story, but it's the player, not the game. Either way, to say it to such a superior and legendary figure is not classy. Magalhães trying to compare his skills to Nogueira would be like Gohan trying to instruct Goku. **** just shouldn't happen. You HAVE to agree on this. Back to Mir. Saying he can crush Nogueira with ease? I don't know how you interpret disrespect and I won't dare make a judgment, but someone with that mind set must get walked over quite a lot.

You also gotta realize there tryin to sell the fight between him and nog, but i thot Mir was a prick for questioning roli's belt and for saying that bs " i can only get my black belt if i break tim's arm" story.

On another note, werent u at like 1,000 points last week? How the hell u get so much back?

Saying he could crush Nog is just hype, what's he gonna say, I'm gonna walk in and get my ass whooped? C'mon now that's a slack attitude. I mean Barnett was the same in both of their fights saying that he didn't see what the big deal with Nog. If anything it shows Mir's confidence which is fine by me.

And as far as Vinny's BJJ being better than Nog's. . . Well looking at both guys BJJ credentials, I would have to say that Vinny's is better. Vinny's a 3 time world champion at both HW and super HW, a Pan-Am champ and a Grappler's Quest champ and holds a win over Drysdale who's Mir's coach on the show as well as Xande Ribeiro. Nog's best accomplishment in BJJ is 3rd place at the Mundials. So saying that he is a better BJJ player isn't a lie nor is it disrespectful, the proof is in the accomplishments.

And Mir was the one who brought up the BJJ to Vinny, Vinny simply agreed with it in that he felt that Nog's BJJ is basic not Nog's skill as a fighter, there's a difference. And in all honesty it is pretty basic as far as BJJ on its own is concerned. He uses very basic sweeps, basic guards, and textbook subs. In MMA he's been able to apply it very well, but in his matches against guys who are on par with his level of grappling (Werdum, Fedor, Barnett, Horn, Rodriguez) he hasn't looked the BJJ force that he has been seen as against guys with next to no grappling background (Crocop, Sylvia, Zulu, Sapp). IMO Nog's biggest asset is that he is able to endure punishment that normal human beings can't and once the fighter has more or less shot his load he pounces. If he wasn't able to endure such punishment then we wouldn't even be having this convo.

Or he could be a classy contender, like Fedor was when he first got matched up against Nogueira and talk about how he admires him as a fighter and will test himself against his skills?

I know the history, should have read deeper into my post. It is disrespectful to be underneath of someone, especially a coach. Being still in your learning phase of a sport, and say you are better at one thing than a coach. It would be like if you were playing football and you were stronger than one of your coaches. You parading around with another coach saying you are stronger than your coach isn't annoying and disrespectful?

Agreed, that is his major strength. But then again, Fedor's major strength is his Submissions, but a real fan knows that he offers everything else on the same level.

That's Fedor though, not Mir and not every other guy in the sport. I mean in all honesty Fedor's calm and respectful personality suits him when you couple it with his fighting style because they couldn't be any different. Mir is ****y and arrogant because it is how he feels comfortable. If it brings the best out of him then fair enough, its the fight game, people chat mess about each other, you may not like it but it is the way it is. I mean its not like he turned around and insulted the guys mother or something, he just stated what he feels.

I didn't see any parading around at all. Mir said something about Nog's BJJ being basic and Vinny agreed. In fact it was Nog's boy who said that Vinny was the one who made the comments. Vinny never said that he was better at BJJ than Nog, Mir said that Vinny was better at BJJ than Nog which he is. Vinny wasn't being arrogant or out of line IMO. He's a world champion BJJ player, he's got every right to agree with Mir's notion that Nog's BJJ is basic because he is a far better player than Nog. If he had said that he was a better fighter than Nog, then yes he would be percieved as arrogant, but he didn't.

Agreed, that is his major strength. But then again, Fedor's major strength is his Submissions, but a real fan knows that he offers everything else on the same level.

Fedor's strength isn't his submissions IMO. Its that he does something that other fighters can't which is bring all aspects of MMA together and makes them work wherever the fight may go. He is the Terminator, Arnie ain't got sh** on him!

Nogueira has shown he is vulnerable to the knee bar. Ricco got him with one at ADCC many years back, Josh Barnett also got him with one at the end of their first fight back in PRIDE.
Not saying I would bet money on it, but dont be surprised if Mir pulls a knee bar out of his ass.

Agreed, Ricco was one of my favourites back in the day. His style and his abilities were second to none. Then the girls, partying took his focus away and then the weight gain just diminished his skills even further.
